  1. I think the periodization idea is a great idea. Either you should drop down and work back up (a la Pavel), or you could try doing something like 3x3 at 80%+ max for a while, to give yourself time to recover a bit. It seems like your reps are kind of high?
  2. Another brand to try is Whole Soy, they sell them at the Stop and Shop by me in Stratford, and they used to sell them in NH as well. They aren't as creamy as Silk at first, but once you mix them up they are very tasty. Im really into the lemon, rasberry, and blueberry.
  3. Yep I attended UNH, and have been looking for jobs all over the place. I'll be in CT until the end of June, and am interviewing/figuring out what consulting firm I will land in. I lived in Dover for most of my UNH experience, its such a nice up and coming town. I hope you're enjoying the rain.
  4. Congratulations on all your big news, its great to see another person from CT around. And congrats on getting a home in this overpriced state!
  5. Im from Stratford, just south of New Haven.
  6. Hello, my name is Andy, I'm 22 and have been vegan for 5 years. I've been weight training off an on for the past 4 years or so, but only got serious about it for the past 2 years. I went to school in New Hampshire, and am currently living in southern Connecticut. I just finished a degree in envrionmental engineering, and then was living out in China for 6 months. I didn't get to train very much, nor did I get to always eat a good meal, and lost most of what I had gained. I've been back to training a lot for the past 4 months and am about back to where I was. I've generally stuck to the tried and true 5x5 routine my powerlifter friends do. I'm vegan more for environmental reasons, to ultimately reduce my ecological footprint. I started training a lot when my friends started doubting that one can gain size on a vegan diet. I've proved them wrong for sure. I've been lurking the boards here for the past few weeks and wanted to finally introduce myself, everyone here seems to be a well informed, positive, helpful person. Thanks for making a resource like this!
  7. From what I've read, unfermented soy is what has been shown to cause some problems. The issues I have seen are higher estrogen levels, intestinal distress, and finally dementia. The only thing I've seen a real study on is actually the dementia part. A study of Japanese men living in Hawaii was done, and those that ate tofu 2x a week or more had a statistically higher chance of dementia. Now in this study they really didn't survey a large sample population, and only stuck to japanese men. Here is a link: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=PubMed&list_uids=10763906&dopt=Abstract I lived in China for 6 months, and a lot of the tofu that the Chinese consume is "stinky." They age it in pig pens for a month, so it develops these black moldy spots on it, and it smells like a toilet. They love it, I would almost vomit everytime I tried to eat it. The Japanese also have aged tofu as well, which is brown and pastey, and equally as appetizing. I so I wish I could get a taste for it though.
