  1. lettuce with tomatoes. I was assured my bf's mom would prepare a vegan dish, but apparently her idea of vegan is pushing the chunks of meat aside. So I ate lettuce and chopped tomatoes. (Not that I'm bitter!)
  2. I suppose I have to technically agree........ but the nostalgia factor will stop me from ever translating that sentiment into my actions! Christmas trees can be a really beautiful way to bring families together. Sure, there are other ways to do that..... more ecologically sound, less consumer based ways...... but there's something so lovely about buying a tree, and decorating it with your family and friends, and enjoying it's light and fragrance in your home all month long. Maybe it is selfish, ecologically speaking, but if this is one of my 'vices' I don't think I'm doing too badly!
  3. I agree w/ Vegan Joe..... why don't you cook/buy some delicious Vegan Thanksgiving dishes and bring them with you? That way you are spreading the love! The issue is then brought out into the open in a really positive way. If your family starts to think that your vegan lifestyle is taking you away from them.... they likely will never understand (or be willing to try and understand) your point of view. They'll only see it as a negative thing.
  4. I saw a screener about a week ago.... it's pretty phenomenal. And Brad Pitt is wonderful! I wouldn't say he's shedding any heartthrob image/look though..... he's born old, but eventually becomes the prettiest person you've ever seen as he de-ages! I look forward to hearing what everyone else thinks....
  5. Oh wow, I didn't know! Thanks for the info.
  6. Does your vegan lifestyle extend to your dog or cat? (Or any other pet, for that matter?) My cat is not vegan, mostly because I am on a pretty tight budget these days and I can get giant bags of cat food from the local supermarket for $10. The only vegan cat food I've found is on-line, and is quite expensive. Also, I'm unclear about how healthy or unhealthy it is for animals to be force-fed a vegan diet. Anyone know anything about this? I would prefer, given I had the finances, not to support animal cruelty in any way...... this is the one big way in which I still do..... Just curious for thoughts and experiences.
  7. I've been reading about a diet plan called the Life Force Plan, which a friend of mine really benefited from. Has anyone else here heard of it? Or tried it? As a vegan, I imagine the limited 'Yes' foods would get boring (only fruits, veggies, brown rice, brown rice cereal), but it's only for the first 8 weeks.... at week nine you add tofu, legumes, and nuts back in.... Here are the links: Main page: http://mccombsplan.com/ Yes/No Foods http://mccombsplan.com/new_yesnofood.htm For vegetarians and vegans they recommend an amino acid formula to supplement protein intake, which I imagine would be necessary for those first two months. Thanks in advance for any thoughts....
  8. Well, I'm sure we'd be healthier!
  9. oh no! oh, that video was terrible! some people are so heartless.
  10. Did you write this? It's lovely.
  11. Starting a new log, 'cause I feel like it. Current weight: 130 pounds Ideal weight: 118/120 pounds (I think--I'll re-assess as I get closer to my goals). Took awhile for me to get back on track (partly due to a knee injury- and partly because soy ice cream is delicious ), but I'm here and it feels great! I've only been doing cardio thus far (booty sculpting cardio, but still just cardio), and I think it may stay that way until I get back from Thanksgiving vacation in early December (I won't have access to any sort of gym for a week and a half). So, when I'm away..... lots of long walks, and if I can motivate myself to do some lunges, squats, and push-ups to prep for my return to the gym..... I'll be a happy girl. When I get back.... I'll start going to sculpting classes again. I love the cheesy teachers and group energy. Keeping a food journal and counting calories has worked wonders for me in the past.... so I'll do that again too! And I like being accountable to an on-line log. So far: Day 1 - 11/18 - 1200 calories, 40 minutes/high intensity, heavy 'weight' Elliptical machine Day 2 - 11/19 - 1300 calories, terrible spin class and about 10 minutes on my crappy home bike Day 3 - today! Eating well thus far, 30 minutes/high intensity Ellip. machine, 20 minutes stair climber w/ lots of leg kick-backs
  12. But doesn't the word encompass the privileges? I want to get married someday, call myself 'married' to my future husband (WITH all the privileges!).... but I'm not religious, and would never have a religious ceremony.... should the word not apply to me? (Mostly playing devil's advocate here!)
  13. Why is this the "real" answer? Are opposing thoughts not "real"? Aren't they just opposing viewpoints, impassioned perspectives based on experience, upbringing, and/or faith?
