  1. what don't you consider the idea of buying a recipe book?? you'll find tons of ideas on how to cook vegetables, cerelas and how to "mix them" together The easiest way is just to...boil them(but this way the taste is pretty "simple") if you want to gain weight I' m afraid veg. are not enough. Eat cereals and legumes and seeds and olive oil (or sunflower or soya oil) I don't know how to tell which recipes are both good for weight and healthy.
  2. Really? I've never heard of that view, could you explain why? To my understanding its a measure of weight with a persons height taken into consideration. So a short person and a tall person with the same BMI, and the same body fat% will be just as buff, or so I thought. I just know no matter how much I eat my body fat % doesnt change, so any extra weight (higher BMI) will mean more muscle.
  3. Thanks all. I think what I need is recipes. Because I dont know what to get if I dont plan out all my recipes for the week and therefore know what and how much stuff to get. I've read tons and tons of articles on how to eat healthy and how to eat to gain weight and I keep hearing the same advice over and over eat more good fats eat more vegetables blah blah blah well none of that is any help, cause guess what, even if I buy a fridge full of vegetables and the foods they say are healthy or good for gaining weight, what do I do with them? You can't eat them straight, except for the premade stuff, that I'm trying to stay away from. I want to eat healthy but I don't know what to buy or how to put it together to make something edible.
  4. Whats your BMI? Mine is exactly 20..which studies have shown is the most attractive weight for women!! I'm looking to get up to 24. BMI calculator: http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/dnpa/healthyweight/assessing/bmi/adult_BMI/english_bmi_calculator/bmi_calculator.htm
  5. I was wondering if anyone can help me gain weight. I want to eat vegan and gain weight but honestly I don't know how to. I am a college student so I have the advantage of having lots of gaps in my schedule to possibly go home and eat (I have a kitchen in my apartment.) I just don't know what to eat, how much, and when. I'd like to get enough protein (1g for 1lb body weight?) omega 3, recommended 5 a day each of fruits and vegetables, etc. It would be much appreciated!
  6. Thanks for all the welcomes and advice! To answer your question Dave, I simply meant eating non-vegan food.
  7. What temperature are you most comfortable at indoors? ie what thermostat setting? fahrenheit
  8. I read in a magazine-type handout at my gym that "excess weight is rarely due to metabolism." This is talking about when people say they are overweight because they have a "low" metabolism. Can anyone confirm this? I'm especially wondering if this is true for underweight/hardgainers. I'm not sure but I think the genetics/metabolism reason is an excuse for both groups. I think diet and exercise habits are learned "genetically" - from parent to child - and therefore innapropriate calorie intake/nutrition/calorie burning is passed down and problems show up in "genetic" patterns. I'm part of a family that says theyre underweight and frequently uses the excuse, 'oh, I just have a super high metabolism.' But the truth is, at least my parents and I, are just horrible at grocery shopping, cooking, keeping up a stocked pantry etc. Dinner is not planned whatsoever, pantry and food supplies seem to always be empty, and before I got into bodybuilding and eating right, I sucked at grocery shopping. I hated going to the grocery store because every time I went I would have no idea what to get, and ended up getting very little, so I needed to come back in a few days. Just a few thoughts..
  9. Hi all! My name is Matt. I live in North Carolina, US, I am 5' 10" 135 lbs currently, rising, trying to gain weight. My goal is around 155 lbs at least. I want to really bulk up. I have been vegetarian since fall 07, but I frequently make "mistakes" because honestly gaining weight is a higher priority for me than vegetarianism. However, I haven't eaten meat since July 14 and since then have eaten less and less dairy. You might call me a "bad" vegan but, in my own words I would describe my views as this- if I had the choice, ideally I would eat an entirely vegan diet. I try to get as close to this as possible. I guess you could also call me a "localvore" (I think thats what they call it) meaning that ideally all my food would come from my local farmers market. And finally, I try to avoid processed foods as much as possible. I just really don't know how to make it happen which is usually why I end up going to dairy or meat if it seems like I have no food and I really need some calories. I have the vegan cookbook "veganomicon" coming in the mail, it should help me. Its just that I was raised on a pretty typical diet with mostly processed foods and very little fresh produce, and I don't really know how to live off the stuff. I noticed the meal plans in the article section of this website, I will check them out. Again hello all and I look forward to communicating with you guys!
