  1. I totally got ya......but I am fearful I am going to shed too much muscle as I lose fat.
  2. Great thoughts.... I have been doing tons of carbs and I will say, I was just as strong last summer when I was doing less carbs and more protein with protein drinks, etc.....I was as strong or stronger and leaner. I looked leaner, muscles stood out more and I was just as strong or stronger. Hmmm, might try that again. I have too much fat on my mid section now but I know it comes with bulking up and gaining muscle. Maybe I can eat just as big, add some cardio, stay with heavy weights, but cut wah down on fat and carbs. The time I was my leanest however was when I was strick vegan in 2007-2009. I ate lots of carbs then! But, all whole foods!
  3. I used to be one to consume protein supplements, creatine, you name it and was always careful to eat lots of protein. You know what, I have made better gains in the last year or so eating more by instinct and natural craving, which means a ton of carbs, such as shredded wheat, oats, beans, fruit and veggies. I still eat soy products, and some eggs once in a while, but my point is all the gains I have made in size and strength with just eating healthy, and not worrying about protein. This is the first time in my life I have been over 230 lbs. Rich
  4. I am 42 and spent the last two years bulking up. Right now I am over 230 lbs at over 6'2". I look at my stomach, and I feel fat but other people see me with my shirt on and think I have little fat. However, I am used to very little fat so any amount makes me feel chubby I just look like a fairly big and muscular guy right now. At 42, I am not sure I should continue packing it on or try to get cut soon. What do you all think? I feel it gets harder with age.
  5. Ever eat too much at night? I had a hard workout today so I ate extra tonight but I over did it. After a dinner of salad, potatoes, tofu and soy sausage, I then had two bowls of cereal and a cup of yogurt. Stomach hurts, LOL.
  6. Lunch today was sateed tofu, onion, garlic, broccoli, in liquid aminos and sesame oil with brown rice. Nice long walk this morning. My body weight is almost to 230 lbs. I need to get leaner before I attempt adding any more mass.
  7. Horsesense, the problem I and most all people have is that we lose muscle along with fat and gain muscle along with fat so I know it is near impossible to gain muscle and lose fat at the same time. It is one or the other, gain or lose. When I was about 38 - 40, I was down to about 3,000 - 3,500 calories and I became very lean but I lost a lot of muscle as well. I was only 185 lbs, yikes! During my bulking this year I was doing close to 6,000 or more calories a day. With that I was gaining muscle and fat. I know this is just part of the process but I am not sure at this point if I want to keep pushing for size before trying to get lean. I wanted to be more lean for the summer but it is getting a bit late and I don't like having my weight go up and down so I may just try to eat cleaner but keep pushing for size. Right now I am 225 at 6'2". C.O., I don't snowboard much these days. After college I moved to Utah for a while, Salt Lake, and spent a ton of time riding Vermont, including the back country at Stowe. Also took many trips to Jackson, Tahoe, Whistler and others. Home is Philadelphia, PA however and I am lucky if I ride one day a year now. It is not a priority now. My family is number one, and I spend a lot of time on exercise and bodybuilding. Also, music and guitar is higher on the list now than snowboarding, partly because it is easier to do when you have a family and career.
  8. I was thinking of removing all nuts for a while. The thing that worries me about bulking up at 42, it seems so much harder to lose the belly fat at this age.
  9. Been snowboarding since I was 20, I am 42 now. I grew up with some of the early pros and lived in Utah. I hate cardio, only weights....but I am adding bike and stair climber at the gym.
  10. I am 225 lbs right now at 6'2" and although I would like to add some more mass, right now I want to get ripped up and will work to add mass in the fall and winter. This is my diet, not exactly, but these are the things I am eating: oatmeal lots of fruit lots of veggies whole grain bread (not a ton) some peanut butter some nuts tofu soy milk soy yogurt red potatoes quinoa green tea one cup of home roasted coffee Protein powder some dry ceral brown rice Trying to limit calories and do more cardio.
  11. I have strong political views, social views, animal rights views, etc and I have been trying to gert rid of friends who stand on the other side of the fence. Unfortunately, some of these people are close relatives! Hard to just cut those people out of my life. I am tired however of receiving emails from them all the time concerning puting an end to cruelty against cats and dogs, while they eat their steak and potatoe. There was a woman on the radio this morning talking about how she loves her dog but she swerved in her car while driving to purposely hit a possum crossing the street. She said they are just no good rats.
  12. But I don't know if things will ever change and that is sad.
  13. Hey all, I am tirined of people I know getting so fired up about the crime of dog fighting, yet they continue to consume lots of meat! Does anyone have any good articles I can pass along to help these people see this from my perspective, that animals are tortured and murdered every day? They defend this by saying, if it is for food, it is fine. Thanks for any info and good articles explaining the cruelty that takes place. Thanks again.
  14. I will have to get some links. I have a few books on bodybuilding, strength training that also talk about the same thing, in fact two of the books say to avoid overhead pressing all together. For me? I can tell you from experienc....since changing my hand position.....my shoulders have NEVER been stronger or more PAIN FREE! This is the best advice anyone has ever given me for shoulders, I thank my sports medicine doc all the time! What a difference!!!!! I haven't done military pressing in years, and my shoulders are thanking me! Plus, they are stronger than ever. It amazes me how bodybuilders and power lifters, etc suddenly become experts on the human body, biomechanics, etc. Everyone can do what they want but I know what I now do to avoid injury and it has made a huge difference!
