  1. In addition to happycow.com for restaurants, I tend to eat a ton of raw food while traveling. I'll be in Wyoming or wherever and just stop at a grocery store and pick up a bunch of apples, carrots, oranges, nuts, peanut butter, etc.. to carry with me. This way you always have food on hand especially in areas where vegan restaurants are hard to come by. Also, Asian restaurants will simply steam veggies and rice for you if you ask them. A lot of times they put chicken stock in simple vegetable dishes that are on the menu, so this avoids running into that.
  2. They make a methyl b12 and this one as well which is the one that I use. http://www.nutraceutical.com/search/view_product.cfm?product_index=5099443
  3. I get my B12 tablets from Whole Foods. The brand I use is called "Veg Life." They run about $6 per bottle and they are the sublingual tablets that supposedly absorb better.
  4. The "99 Cent Only" stores in the Los Angeles area all carry the WestSoy soy milk as well as organic cherry tomatoes, organic lettuce, organic celery and organic beans and other canned goods. I get a lot of my groceries there especially when times are tough.
  5. Hey man, I am a vegan drummer and have been vegan for 18 years now. I tour a lot and I work out too, both on tour and while I am back at home, as well as practice for 1-3 hours per day. Let me know if you have any questions that I can help you with here or via facebook or email. [email protected] or www.facebook.com/jonsiren I am a work in progress but may be able to swap info. Good luck! This website is great for inspiration and information, so being on here is definitely helps.
  6. Lately, I've been listening to Atari Teenage Riot and Babyland.
  7. I think they are looking to release dvd's around September. I'll post something here when I find out a release date.
  8. Wow, badass! I didn't know Voivod had an animal rights song. Sweet!
  9. I just checked out a great animal rights inspired move called "Bold Native." A few of my friends acted in the movie and did a fantastic job! Go check it out if you live on the West Coast. I believe it will be playing in Seattle and Portland next in select theaters. It was also a pleasure to finally meet Robert Cheeke at the LA screening and chat for a bit. Cheers!
  10. RIP Dio! I am happy I got to see him at the Revolver Golden Gods Awards a couple of months ago. He was certainly one of the greats!
  11. I have oatmeal with banana, cinnamon, agave, and a little peanut butter mixed in. This works well and carries me for a couple of hours before I need something else to eat.
  12. I personally don't have much of a problem with it either. A lot of new vegetarians/vegans are lead to believe that it is one of the only protein sources out there though when reading through nutritional advice columns about animal-free diets. I'd say go for it but make sure that you try getting protein from other sources too like lentils, peas, nuts, seeds, whole greens, etc.. as well. I do experience some stomach discomfort if I have too much soy though. A lot of people experience this as well and some have soy allergies. I hope this helps!
  13. Here is a really easy split pea soup recipe that I make all of the time and have on hand for busy days. 1.5 cups of split peas 1 onion 2 carrots 2 potatoes 2 celery ribs rolled oats or all purpose flour dill garlic powder bay leaf salt pepper 5-6 cups of water Ok, so dice all of the veggies and toss them in an oiled soup pot on medium heat. Let these cook for about 5 minutes. Add about a spoon full of powdered garlic, a spoon full of dill, a spoon full of salt, a dash of pepper and a bay leaf and cook for one more minute. Add the split peas and water. Crank the heat up and let this come to a boil and then drop it to a simmer. Let that go for a while until the peas soften "soak the peas in advance if you want this to happen sooner." When the peas are soft "about 45 minutes" add a few spoons of rolled oats or flour to the soup and then blend it all in your blender "make sure to lift the small cap on the inside a little so that soup doesn't splash out from the heat pressure." Enjoy this with some sprouted bread or corn bread.
  14. I live a heavily active lifestyle too between my job, being a drummer and working out at the gym and I find that eating small meals throughout the day is the first thing that helps get me through without feeling fatigued. Secondly, make sure you are eating a variety of foods. I try my best to have a lot of different whole grains, beans, seeds, vegetables, and fruits throughout the day. Another question that I have is, are you trying to lose or gain weight? This will dictate the foods and amounts you should focus on. I am usually trying to maintain because I am more likely to lose weight if I don't eat enough calories. One or two of my meals consist of a protein shake that I make using soy milk, flax oil, banana, and protein powder "rice, pea, hemp blend." This usually helps out too. Root veggies/tubers help me with sustained energy as well, so I eat a lot of potatoes "with skins," sweet potatoes, turnips, parsnips, etc.. Eating these before workouts tend to help prolong my energy. Try cooking a lot of food in advance too. I am really busy, so I make large batches of stews, soups, etc.. that I can eat with rice, millet, corn bread or sprouted bread and/or a salad. This way I have "fast food" on hand that is healthy. I hope this helps you out!
