  1. 30 year old vegan guy in the Salem, Oregon area hoping to find someone to help me start lifting weights. I don't yet have a gym (or even better yet maybe someone has a garage with Barbells and a rack?). I'm new to lifting and would like to do the basic routine from Starting Strength by Rippetoe and Kilgore (Squats, Deadlift, Press, Clean etc.) and would love to find a fellow vegan that could help me. Even if not, some vegan friends in the Salem area would be great! I've been vegan for a little over three years now but don't have any vegan friends. I'm a filmmaker and very friendly
  2. Makes mucho sense, DV, thank you! Do you have your logs on here from those first six months? I will check to see if I can find them Your results are very exciting. And the smarter not longer mantra is DEFINITELY one I hope to aspire to.
  3. Heya - thanks and hello to all of you, thank you for taking the time to reply to my post! It's certainly been inspiring and informative reading your stuff in the forums, and of course the fantastic articles. Amazing physique, Robert, certainly something for anyone to aspire to! I still need to see the film you guys made- It's a great thing to know that at least some of the Vegan Bodybuilding movement has seemed to have sprouted up from my own backyard, so to speak. You are definitely correct Richard, I know that weightlifting is imperative for my goals- either way. I was just unsure about the most efficient manner. As in, should my diet be geared more calorie wise to gaining at this time and what sort of cardio should I be doing? I figure that 10 pounds is a large amount of muscle to gain in a six month period, and was unsure of how to reconcile that goal with the 16lb fat loss I also desire. Hopefully, as you guys have said and as I have read elsewhere, being a beginner, eating clean, well proportioned, and frequent small meals, will allow me to do both significantly, at least for a while Now my journey from hideous and skinny-yet-fat guy to fine vegan specimen can begin... It's gonna be a long hard road haha!
  4. I am a 29yo vegan male and filmmaker in Salem, Oregon. I've been vegan for almost three years now, no looking back on that ever of course, one of the best things anyone can ever do- for themselves and the Universe! This is a Bodybuilding board so I should say- I am absolutely DETERMINED to transform my body. Besides a 2 1/2 months of a body for life challenge in 2001, I am a beginner CURRENTLY - 5'7.5" and 146 lbs at 19% bodyfat. GOAL- 140 lbs or more at 8-10% bodyfat by early July 2009 (6 months from Now). So I am sorta wondering how I should most efficiently go about this as far as gaining muscle/losing fat goes? I have searched the subject for a long time now and am still unsure of the best method seeing as how I need to gain at least 10 lbs muscle and lose 16 lbs of fat- both substantial and (seemingly?) opposing goals. Should I focus on gaining muscle for 3 months and then on losing fat for 3? I am interested in programs that are comprised mostly or entirely of basic compound lifts like Squat, Deadlift, Bench Press, etc. As I said, I want to be 140 lbs (or as much beyond that as possible) but with a bf % under 10. I am interested in strength and fitness of course, but I am primarily motivated by vanity haha. What're everyone's thoughts/suggestions!?
