  1. im actually competing in the midwest NAGA championship up in Wisconsin. I'll be competing at blue belt though.
  2. so i am about three weeks out from a big jiu jitsu tournament and i have been training for it completely vegan as far as diet goes. I am feeling really good and so far it doesn't seem like i will have any problems making weight. the night before the tournament i have to weigh in at 139.9. this morning i woke up at 146 and dont plan on going any lower than 144 because i lose 4lbs of water in an average workout so that is the maximum amount of water i will cut as far as dehydration techniques go. i just finished reading the thrive diet so i am incorporating a lot of those principles into how i eat. i feel really strong and have a lot of energy, so it seems that all is going well and my body is adjusting nicely. http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/3889/leanb.jpg after this tournament is over i plan on moving up a weight class to compete at 149.9 so i want to bulk up to around 155-160 and really fill into my frame.
  3. be prepared to have a really cold head and ears for a while lol
  4. thanks! and that is a definite possibility, but i'm pretty sure she said she switched a few years ago but who knows, maybe its a slow process for her. i get the feeling that she is probably over compensating with dairy, hopefully she listened closely when i spoke though, because i beat up dairy pretty good
  5. I just like seeing healthy people in general! I'm literally d isgusted with this obesity epidemic! The other day I was counting the number of overweight kids in my anatomy class (which is a very major oriented class here, so all these kids are majoring in something along the lines of kinesiology/exercise science/ PE/ etc) and its so hypocritical! 15 of out 20 kids were clearly overweight. I'm honestly starting to believe I'm the only healthy person on my campus. Living in the residents hall's, when I'm in the dining hall I get to see what everyone else is eating because its like cafeteria style. There's a breakfast bar in the morning and every single day they have eggs (scrambled or hard boiled), bacon, sausage, hash browns, and sometimes breakfast burritos. There are kids eating all that stuff EVERYDAY. I honestly feel bad sometimes because a lot of it is ignorance, they simply don't know otherwise for the most part. The freshman 15 is no freakin' joke. What gets me kinda pissed off is when sometimes professors will ask us how the dining halls are for eating a healthy meal, and everyone says it how terrible it is, yet I'm a (health conscious) vegan and I make it work. arrgh i cant take it soemtimes /rant
  6. So i mentioned above^ that there was one other vegetarian in my class. Our teacher said we could do the same topic as long as we took it different directions, she took the health side, i took the environmental/animal cruelty side. So we figured we would get a better message across if two people spoke about it. Well today was the last day of presentations and ANOTHER person did there speech on vegetarianism. It was cool that out of a class of 20 kids, three people were vegetarians. The girl i collaborated with is really thin, stereotypically thin. I'm more on the athletic side but i am also fairly thin/average looking. However this last girl was overweight, borderline obese which probably gave some people a bad impression. Although hopefully the open-minded kids will get the idea that just because your a vegetarian doesn't necessarily mean you healthy. I cringed when this girl said being a vegetarian can help reduce obesity, i kinda felt bad for her, but hopefully the third times a charm and someone will get the message.
  7. thank you and all went well, Not only am I in shape, but every other person in the class is a blind victim to the Standard American Diet (SAD), even the teacher who is a 22 year old grad student has already let himself go. I'm not muscle-bound, and if I'm not pumped up from working out, I look pretty average especially since i wear looser fitting shirts. So for my presentation, i wore a tighter shirt and did some push ups to pump my arms up a bit for dramatic effect hope it worked and people noticed!
  8. The speech went very well! Although it was awkward at moments because I incorporated things that makes fun of meat eater's and there was only one other vegetarian in my class, so no one really laughed at my jokes if thats what you wanna call them. And then when they wouldnt laugh, i would because they weren't lol I did get some good facial reactions when i started talking about milk though!
  9. humans are not carnivores, tell your prof to take an entry level anatomy and physiology class and pay close attention to the sections that covers the structure and functions of the mandible.
  10. when rolling jiu jitsu (yes actual fighting is slighty different, but it is also very similar) I find myself looking at their upper chest/core area and relying on peripheral vision to see what the appendages are doing. Same goes for the Muay Thai fighters i talk to at my gym.
  11. i have almost the opposite problem, i can only eat small amounts at a time because i guess i have a small stomach or something...? i dont really know why actually. But for example, a PB&J sandwich is a pretty big part of my diet and if i eat a whole sandwich in one sitting with maybe a half glass of water, i feel filled to the brim and dont want to move after that. So i eat a half at a time about 1-2 hours a part. I've been considering moving up a weight class but every time i try i always give up after the first week because i get sick of stuffing myself (or at least that how it feels to me) But i like that 8/16 fasting idea, i think im gonna give that a try.
  12. i don't body build, but these are my favorite foods to eat while training and pretty much all the time. -oatmeal -vega smoothies -marijuana muscle -cliff bars -vegetable tortilla wraps -PB&J sandwiches -beans -brown rice -chips with mango salsa -hemp milk -FRUIT (blueberries, mangos, apples, bananas, pineapple, pawpaw (only had it once but im hooked), watermelon and grapes VEGETABLES (i go by color and just aim for a full spectrum) -burritos =]
  13. that would be a great fight with Faber or Brown. hell yeah it would! I honestly think he would tear up that division. Before his fight with Neer, he said that he boxes like a tall guy and that doesnt work against taller guys. In the WEC at 145, He would definitely be on the taller end of the spectrum, I can only think of like three more well known fighters off the top of my head who are taller than him.
