  2. I come to ask for knowledge, not to post food. Alright, enough of changing Marc Antony's (Shakespeare's) words for my (rahzh) own gain. I am interested in information about Vegan cooking courses. I have found information on quite a few 1-day Vegan classes or vegetarian courses but that is not the information I seek. I want to find Vegan classes or courses that are longer (weeks, months or beyond) and cover multiple areas and/or methods of cooking. If they are accredited and give certification upon completion even better, but not necessary. If you have any information you can post it as a reply here, at the blog ( http://hungryhungryveganos.wordpress.com )e-mail me at [email protected], or Direct Message me on Twitter ( ). Thanks for any and all help in advance. Here was a Post! When comes another? (one last use of Marc Antony/Shakespeare ) http://etc.usf.edu/clipart/700/794/shakespeare_2_lg.gif
  3. Hungry Hungry Veganos Let Live NW Animal Rights Conference 2009 (LLNWAR2009) in Portland June 26-28 & Animal Rights 2009 National Conference (AR2009) in Los Angeles July 16-20. Attend one, have some fun, & find out what needs to be done! In the next 30 days there will be two major conferences in the USA and both are happening on the West Coast. June 26-28 the Let Live NW Animal Rights Conference 2009 (LLNWAR2009) will be held in Portland,OR at Portland State University in the Smith Memorial Building. July 16-20 the Animal Rights 2009 National Conference (AR2009) will be held in Los Angeles,CA at the Westin LAX. Each conference has multiple sponsors and organizers (far to many to list them all. For a full list check out the website for each conference). The "Let Live" conference is being sponsored/organized by "Vegans for Animal Advocacy, with support from Let Live Foundation as well as local area businesses such as Herbivore Clothing, and Food Fight Grocery". The "AR2009" conference is being sponsored/organized byFARM (Farm Animal Rights Movement), In Defense of Animals (IDA), and Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. The conferences can be many things and serve many purposes. The obvious purpose that they serve is to educate people in multiple areas of AR. With so many speakers/events/videos you can pick and choose what you would like to learn about. Secondly, they provide a time and place for like minded people to come together and be able to relax and share their lives with each other. Which leads to the third purpose of having fun. You can eat, drink, go to a nearby animal sanctuary, stay up late talking, and so on. While I (rahzh) have never attended "Let Live" I did attend AR2007 and I can say without a doubt that it served all three of these purposes. After you leave you feel a sense of being rejuvenated and wanting to do more. This happens because not only will you learn new information but you will be around people similar to yourself and have fun doing it which is important. After leaving you may also feel a little sad though especially if in your day to day life you are not around so many like minded people. Still very much worth it. We feel that, if possible, you should attend at least one of them ( make sure to register). If you have the capability and resources to attend both then that is even better. As they are both on the West Coast it makes it a little harder for people living closer to the East Coast to attend. Do not fret if this is you. The Animal Rights National Conference rotates every year between Los Angeles & outside of Washington D.C. and that means next year the conference will be coming to the East Coast. Not to mention there are other conferences throughout the USA and the World. 4. In November I will be in Vegas (I am meeting up with like 15 or more Vegans from the Vegan Freak forum). The meet-up will be 8-11. I will probably be there 6-12 (Dates not set in stone and could change on either side). Just curious as to if any of the members live there or are visiting there around the same time. Also besides casinos and stuff of that nature do any of you know of any things/places worth checking out?
  5. Since my trip will be a year or possibly a little longer I will obviously be visiting many areas and many countries. My question is should I plan it out completely and have set dates (especially for things such as bus/train/plane tickets) or should I go more with the flow of things and go/come as I feel fit. I would think buying tickets and stuff ahead of time would be cheaper right (well possibly),but it would also put on some strain and make me feel like I have deadlines and stuff. Suggestions? Personal preferences? Oh, I haven't. Since I live in the USA I will be able to travel to different areas of the USA at different times with much more ease I think ,but with other countries (especially overseas) I think it would be easier to travel to as many as possible each trip. So I think it would be best for this future trip to focus on other countries. I did ;P
  6. How are you liking it so far? I must admit its a lot more veg friendly than my hometown of Roseburg. I like it a lot. I have been here before. Eugene is one of the most Vegan friendly places in Oregon. Way better than Salem. Also it is cool because it is easy to get around by walking, bike (many bike paths and many of the roads have bike lanes as well), and bus. Eugene has quite a few natural food stores ( I live right down the street from Sundance ). Not sure how many veg related groups there are,but I know EVEN is here and SETA is here as well. Are you going to school? I am going to LCC for a year and then U of O. If you have never been to Sweet Life Pâtisserie you need to check it out. They aren't 100% Vegan, but their Vegan desserts are awesome!! They also serve other things such as cold drinks, coffee, tea, etc. They have really good hours also (7 am to 11 pm on weekdays and 8am to 11 pm on weekends). I actually have been to Sweet Life before. It was delicious! Lotus Garden is another delicious vegan restaurant. Its def in my top list. Im also going to LCC for a year then transfering to UofO. At the end of this school year Ill be graduating with my Associates so i plan on going to UofO because I hear they have an awesome language program (French is my major). I will be transferring to UofO with my Associates as well (ASOT Business Degree). I am majoring in Business Management and want to minor in education or psychology. I live very close to UofO so it will be nice next year.

  8. I was going to go,but because of a moving problem i cant really afford to go.
  9. I just moved to Eugene today
  10. I grew up in Ohio and the majority of the people I knew hunted (they even gave us excused days off in high school so that we could go hunt). I brother is a big time hunter/fisher. All of them also consumed factory farmed meat, eggs, and dairy. Very few of them even hunted for food. They hunted for "sport". A lot of the time they didn't even eat the meat and just had the animal stuffed. I should also add that I know some of them were not very good shots and even of the best of them couldn't kill the dear instantly ( the deer would usually run for several yards at least before dropping). Hunting is murder and so is factory farming. One type of murder isn't any better than another. There is so such thing as human murder or "happy meat". Say you replaced deer with humans. Would you want to work with the hunters of human because they give humans a chance to live and run away instead of the farm where they cage and restrict them? I wouldn't and I don't support either. Animals have a right to live. They are not here for us to exploit, abuse, and murder. There is no reason to hunt in todays world (especially in developed countries). And if you use the "well people in undeveloped countries need to use animals" as an excuse that might be true except if you take into consideration that if the land used to grow food for the animals was used for the production of food for people then everyone on earth could be fed. Even with the land we have now most developed countries have a surplus of plants/vegetables that could be used to feed people they just choose not to.
  11. I am a member of another Vegan forum and there are A LOT of members from/around Portland and quite a few who visit there semi-often. They might be interested. Do you mind if I post your post there?
  12. I will be in Eugene and I have to work that day!!!!! I want to know what the announcement is!
  13. I have been told about CouchSurfing before, but never HClub so thanks. I am a member of another Vegan forum that has tons of members all across the world and always has meet-ups everywhere and everyone is about meeting each other (I met a bunch of them at Ar2007 and I am meeting a bunch more in Vegas in November). And if anyone here is willing to put people up for at least short periods of time that would be good So all of these are possibilities for places to stay and I don't have a problem staying at hostels. I have done it before. I am pretty much game for anything. Old things, new things, museums, architecture, wilderness, animals, ruins, countrysides, cities, food, exploring, hiking, biking, etc. I am really willing to do anything and go anywhere. One of the reasons I want to travel is because I want to see/do things that I wouldn't normally see/do. I also want to see how other people/cultures live. I would like to get stories and suggestions from people so I can decide which places I will go since there are so many places I would like to visit and I know I won't be able to visit them all during the year or so that I will be traveling.
  14. I didn't even know this group existed!!! Since I am moving to Eugene I will probably become a member and go to the meetings and do anything else I can. I was also looking into SETA. Anyone know much about SETA in Eugene?
  15. Alright so here is the plan. I planned on traveling after I graduated from college, but realized that would mean I would end up paying loan payments while traveling (since they start 6 months after graduation). So I contacted the bank and they said it is 6 months after graduation, dropping below halftime for 6 months, OR 7 years after the loan was taken out (as long as I stay above halftime). This means I have 6 more years until I have to start paying the loans back and I only need 3-4 more years to graduate ( In like 1 year I will have my Associates and in 3-4 years I will have my Bachelors). So I only need 3-4 years, but I have about 6. So I am going to spend 1-2 more years in Oregon while attending school full time and then I am going to move to Ohio( I will take 6 credits online ) with my brother for a year so that I can save up (he won't make me pay much of anything) Then for a year or so after that I will travel around for a year or a little more (I will continue taking 6 credits online). I Will then return to Oregon and finish up my Bachelors. IF I am able to find a job that pays me enough to offset the rent+utilities I won't be paying in Ohio then I would stay and save up in Oregon instead. Anyways the real point of this topic is to get ideas, suggestions, and stories. I am mainly looking at traveling outside the USA,but ideas, suggestions, and stories involving the USA are cool also! So I was wondering where have you traveled? Did you like it? Where did you stay? How did you get around? How much did it cost? Anything else you think is important or think I should know? The actual traveling wont take place for like 2-3 years, but I want to start early so I will be able to make some plans and get passports and things. Thanks!!!
