  1. i guess, it's endurance what you seek and not strength, right??then weights don't have to be heavy and you could keep your reps high..it's better to stick to basic compounds, but i think it won't make any difference on what execises you choose, since you'll be orienting to more endurance goals..
  2. smith machine is not only useless, it's dangerous too...smith squatting is just not natural as a movement, it makes hold your back badly unmoving during squatting and also you have to try hard to find a comfortable stance for the legs and knees because you go straight down in the movement instead of leaning back as in the normal free squat...and also in the free squat you strenghten your stabilizing muscles too... it's not that difficult to squat, just lead with your butt and go down and lead your butt up....it's just like sitting..
  3. yeah, i said that along with weights , i'd choose yoga and not jogging, 2 times per week...yoga works your flexibility(i myself was into yoga before lifting) , but jogging apart from burning the calories you need to put weight on, will offer nothing else..heart will be worked with intense weight-training efficiently..jogging is good for couch potoates if they want to do something more active and easy than sitting, but for those who already participate in any kind of training, is useless(except for those who train to run marathons )...generally i think jogging is way overestimated in the weight lifting community as a way to work the heart or a way to burn calories..intense lifting might be better in order to make your heart beating like hell ... ,and get you lean ... of course if someone loves running(as long as he finds running as a stress-releasing activity and not something that is "the best" way to keep fit and tortures himself with endless miles) then he can run, but he should think better what his goals are...
  4. dont to forget to eat(since you'll be also doing more stuff than weightlifting)...+1 to sosso and xphilx...if i were you i'd leave aside HIIT jogging and do more yoga if i wanted to do more than weights..
  5. well, overtraining is a big word to say..it's actually not that easy to overtrain as we think it is,maybe it's overreaching we're talking or just mental exhaustion..overtraining is to bring your CNS down and it might take a few years of intense exercising to be felt..i think only advanced lifters should worry about it who are strong enough (above 2xBW squat, as a strength standard) to push their central nervous system to an edge...on the other hand, periodized training should be followed to prevent exhaustion and give us a mental break... i also agree to that whole calorie timing/counting thing being mentally tiring and maybe a bit insane if you think it(i mean imagine the ancient ones ,thinking about how could they count calories..lol)...But the body is a bunch of bio-organic-chemistry and there's no way we can just "listen" to it...for instance, if someone is a truly ectomorph, there is no way to put weight if he "listens" to his body, and also someone who is overweight, won't lose fat by "listening" and "communicating" with his body..it would be nice to be so romantic, but i guess it's not... I might think though, that all this (communicating with body thing) will be more likely to make sense if we lived as nature calls, more fat(more stored energy for the body's functions) and not really more muscle than the muscle needed for us to be able to survive in nature. But since someone wants to do sth "abnormal",like it is to gain muscle or lose fat (yeah, this is abnormal for humans,we are not meant to be like jay cutler - it's unfunctional for the body) ,we have to do "exaggerated" and "abnormal" things like calorie counting and so...
  6. i guess 1 pound maybe per week, that makes 4 pounds(about 2 kgs) per month..i think it's a healthy weight gaining....if you're a beginner then maybe you'll gain more at first(water retention etc) and then continue gaining weight in a more preservative way..there's no real need to hurry unless you are many kilos down of the weight you want to reach...
  7. If one is already in a hypercaloric diet in at least a weekly basis , i dont think that one really needs to have something right before workout or an hour before..in a hypercaloric diet you already eat much that body is all of the time in a situation trying to digest the food, you dont want to add more before working out, you'll feel sleepy during the lifting cause all blood will be in the stomach..there is no way that in a diet with more calories than those spended someone will be left with no energy to lift...i'd prefer to eat more after the workout while resting in front of the pc ..
  8. Are the protein shakes and bars soy-based too? Have you tried digestive aids?
  9. Welcome.. vegan protein powders are pea- , rice- , hemp- proteins.. (also soy one) some links http://www.trueprotein.com/ http://www.veganessentials.com/ http://www.veganproteins.com/ as long as you keep a diet with a variety of legumes, grains and nuts/seeds you don't have to worry about workout and intakes.. try also mixing up different protein powders for a smoothie or something...
  10. You mean that his socks are not color-combined with the barbell, eh? I guess that's a situation where someone says he's not able to squat ass to GRASS...and he really can't...lol
  11. People are divided in tribes. I guess the search for something supernatural to believe in, has already been in their mind and sure some kind of mind-created superhuman power is already being followed. Punishment from above is more shelf-harming than is to be disregarded from your tribe(talking about the "foolish" primitive people, compared to us). I guess it's the same play with different leading actor, either god or thunder is pretty much made up with the same way of human mind thinking. Now it's evolutionary a smarter, with more foundations to be shaken down, version of the "out there" secrets. I, in purpose, mix religious and socials written laws or morals because i don't think it is separated the one from the other. Humans have in their nature the "to rule and to be ruled" and the first is fulfilled with the diversion in tribes and the second with the making up of the "god idea". I believe human ethics/ morals(not laws yet, as i find laws a later addition to society is order to entirely prevent humans from being equal) cannot be diversed into social and religious, because religion is built inside society and preserves it in its poor nowadays' form and also, in reverse, society is being built through religion. I guees you're talking about beliefs. I'm not talking about personal beliefs, but about ethics and morals(as a strict meaning now), cause belief is the result of human ethics but also belief "protects" ethics(and in extention protects modern society too) from attacks that cannot be repulsed , unless superhuman means are used as a weapon. That's how i guess the story continues..
  12. Agree with that. But i don't think that the only time where the debate on god comes up, is only at a situation of two (a believer and a non believer) fighting over each other, not having thought that they can forget all about it and live in harmony..It can't be that simple..What i'm trying to say is that subject god nowadays is not just a matter of belief; it affects everyone's lives whether someone wants it or not..god is supposed to be the boss from above, the one ruler of all, but that's given in such a way to the people so that they see the only thing about god is whether to believe or not..Politics is made out of this crap, laws are made with the sake of human belief to the superior power above, and people are ruling the world in the name of god, country and religion...subject god is everywhere around, it has affected anything from a spiritual level to a dress code to a behavior code to the politics and our enslavement to a few on this planet..."god is watching you" "be a good boy for god" "thou shall not steal -> those who steal are punished for not having a shitload of money on their possesion to live" "for a period of time we shall not eat this or that for our precious god" "god bless america" .The whole society is built during the ages affected by religion and we're day by day destroying our lives. And as myself , i just can't skip those who continue to waste their time and mind on such poor things that are made up by some "clever guys" to not let us see the real problems on this planet..And for myself , i don't care about evidence if there is a god or not, i just don't want any human or supernatural alien who walks on the sea on a handstand position while turning my water into wine to get me drunk after givimg me three legs or anyshit else to be the boss and rule my life..
  13. lol, they're running to get the protein back??!!..that stuff is seriously lol...
  14. Why do both atheists and religious people have to be ignorant at first place?(are there non-ignorant atheists and religious ones, too?-or they are both "doomed" since the very beggining to live in ignorance?).How can an atheist and a religious man be different parts of a unit (and what is this?), so that could be compared somehow.[is there the subject god, those who follow and those who accept but do not follow(is that an atheist, really?)].And what is the third part, the philosophers and the spiritually educated ones who understand and sympathize for the miserable lives of the other two? Is the 14 year old little "punk" who paints jesus with a beard an atheist, and is my grandma who doesn't even know why, but she still wakes up every sunday from her sweet bed and listens to a bunch of bullshit from hymn books to confirm the "meaning" of her life, a religious person? And am i the well educated guy who, right now, tries to analyze the kid's and the old lady's actions and speak for them?..Even if this is all what it is about, then i still guess it's not ignorance, more a "not given a faken choice to rethink my steps on earth" i'd call it. Btw, i don't think ignorance rules the world, but the world is ignorant enough[= stupid (in the non bourgeoisie dialect)] to still let itself be ruled...
