  1. Diet is whole grains (gluten free), lots of veggies, about 50% raw, not a lot of fruits, good amount of nuts and nut butters, flax and hemp seed, lots of beans and lentils, soy products like tempeh, also use protein powders 1 - 2 times a day... I'm thinking its the ph change that is causing the change in tooth color..my dentist was perplexed as to why my teeth got whiter! I'm not complaining, it's was unexpected benefit to eating this way:)
  2. Today I went to the dentist and he asked me if I have been bleaching my teeth. He commented on how white they were. And two other people this weekend also said that my teeth were really bright and white. I do not use any whiteners and have not changed any of my dental products, but I have switched back to a vegan diet and have been on one for about 2 months now. Has anyone else experienced this? I cannot think of anything else that has changed that would affect my teeth...any ideas?

  4. it will be very interesting to see how my body and mind respond to preparing and competing on a vegan diet...I have alot of naysayers already doubting i will be able to do it, but that just makes me all the more determined to show them that is isn't only possible but i will be in way better condition than last year:) Stephanie when are you planning your first comp??
  5. Thank you for the warm welcome Robert! I just got your book and some vegan supplies the other day and I'm really excited to be getting back to this way of life... I'm happy to see more figure competitors looking towards making a change in the typical precontest plans we are presented with..it's tough because there aren't many vegan trainers out there to help out as you know. I haven't told my trainer yet of my vegan diet and plans for the year, and although he won't know how to help me in that respect, I know he will be super supportive... So I've been experimenting with new foods and products, cooking a ton, working hard in the gym and I'm loving it:) Happy I found this site and community and looking forward to exploring and learning!

    Hello:)

Hello:) My name is Jessica and I was a vegan when I was a teenager and through most my twenties...I had gone back to having some animal protein in my diet for a few years and I recently decided it's time I get back to vegan nutrition. I am a Bikram yoga teacher and have been practicing for over 7 years...recently started training for figure competitions. I competed twice last year, and did the usual precontest meal plan, which was a ton of animal protein. I didn't feel bad on the diet but it always bothered me...just never felt right and I knew I needed to do something different next time around. So now I'm in my "off season" and preparing for the year ahead and I'm really looking forward to preparing and competing on a vegan diet and reading about other athletes and competitors experiences and any advice is always appreciated! Happy New Year everyone! Jessica
