  1. Hi MillionDollarVeggie!! GERD! I echo the sentiments on suckage ... I used to have horrible GERD - but have been able to adjust my diet to resolve 90-95% of the symptoms and have been transitioning off of Omeprazole. While the causes can be diet / anatomical or both ... I would suggest adding a GERD symptom component to your daily food journal and how you feel after each meal ... I was surprised to find that apples were the worst for me ... but in the end - it was any acidic foods. Everyone is so different overall - but it seems tomato sauce gets us all Also sleeping patterns can affect any mechanical/anatomic issues ... esp. if you are stomach sleeper ... which I used to be ... I also now avoid acidic foods after 7pm. This has been helpful for me ... Good luck!
  2. I have contacted MRM-USA about this to confirm ... and here is their reply ... " All our BCAA powders are vegan and our reload’s (soluble BCAA’s for recovery) are vegan as well. We also just came out with a Vegan protein powder and Vegan greens that are so new, we’re still in the process of getting them up on our website. They are available at Iherb.com very soon. Our Driven preworkout is also considered vegan and we other in All natural version or with natural and artificial flavors. Also our Creatine Monohydrate and Glutamine are vegan, hplc tested and contain no fillers." I have transitioned to using most of their products and they taste great ... the team over there is awesome too ... so it's a win-win ... http://www.mrm-usa.com/v2/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.browse
  3. Hi BlueDuck! I had this same problem when I went veg ... ouch!!!! Luckily I work in healthcare and had a bunch of docs around to help me out ... The main causes are as follows ... (in no particular order) Bacterial infection Fungal infection Vitamin B12 deficient Too much vitamin A I then took this info and reviewed my diet and found the following! This is just my experience and how I resolved it ... 1) I was using a lot of Goji Berry powder in the protein shakes - which I didn't realize has 280% the recommended daily allowance per serving - so I was likely overdoing it! which was one potential cause ... since I was having 2-3 servings a day and also had other sources of Vitamin A in my diet - which is a cause of this condition ... 2) I was ALSO not supplementing Vitamin B12 ... so I started and had my doc run labs on this ... I was within normal limits a few months later ... 3) I started applying Carmex (lip balm) each night at bedtime ... and I have been fine ever since!!! Good luck!
  4. Hey P_K! I have found the biggest bang for the buck (and balanced AA profile) is the combination protein powders ... My current suggestion would be ... Vibrant Health makes a protein with the "same" AA ratio of human muscle http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002L4RWC2/sr=1-17/qid=1309434039/ref=pop?ie=UTF8&s=hpc&qid=1309434039&sr=1-17 MRM-USA has a new Veggie Protein ... tastes great and has a great AA profile http://www.mrm-usa.com/v2/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.flypage&product_id=121&category_id=16&manufacturer_id=0&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=1
  5. Hey kckas, Totally been there ... I had a hard time getting used to "taking days off" ... but believe me - your body will love you for it and you will make positive gains in all aspects. I admit ... I still feel guilty having a day off ... that will never change. If you feel like you are being lazy (by taking a day off) ... do what I did and take up something for mind/body ... I am a musician to I dedicate 1-2 days towards my music and do not workout ... It creates a nice balance and allows my body to recover. I also echo the Vitamin D suggestion ... this is important. I always suggest getting a full blood panel (folate, b12, vit d, iron, chem 7) as a veg to make sure you are in top shape ... the proof is in the pudding! Good luck!
  6. Your insurance will cover it if you inform them you are vegetarian/vegan - and then it becomes medically necessary ... but you would need to check since insurance is funny these days ... I have BCBS and it was covered
  7. Hello all ... This one caught my eye as a vegan pharmacist ... so I had to chime in. Depending on what works for your day to day routines ... I have found a weekly B12 sub-lingual lozenge (2,000 mcg - 2,500 mcg) to be the most practical to keep my B12 levels within range - If I forget one week - so what ... I take it the next time around and get in 4 tabs/month. I always have my B12 level (blood work) checked during my annual physical and have been @ the top of the limits. Therefore, this is keeping my B12 stores satisfactory and I have noticed improvements in my other related labs as well - and I have decreased the amount I supplement as well ... I always suggest that all vegetarians, esp. vegans get annual blood work and then tailor their supplements accordingly ... otherwise you are wasting your money and/or driving blind. I recently found that my Vitamin D stores were critically low and have added a Vitamin D2 supplement 2,400 IU/day to resolve that issue ... esp with the risk of bone fractures as a body builder, IMPORTANT! Watch out for D3 ... this one is derived from animal sources! Most multivitamins utilize D3 - heads up! So overall ... ask your physician to run a folate, B12, Vitamin D, Tranferrin saturation, Iron and whatever else they deem appropriate ... and then tailor your supplements accordingly ... You may not need anything if your diet is consistent and your are within normal limits.
