  1. I have a protein drink ( NitroFusion Vanilla ) @ night before sleep ... I add blueberries & 1/2 banana along with a teaspoon of Vega EFA oil ... The sugar in the fruit does not seem to bother Me ... I will also have fruit as snack later in the evening ... But, I do enjoy fruit as opposed to nuts or other fats, carbs ... ... ...
  2. I just started SL & am using 65 lbs ... It doesn't hurt while doing the row but after the workout ... I stood with feet closer together, under-hand grip & bar closer ... That helped immensely ... I will keep doing them ... In time I will build the strength ... Just wanted some experienced input ... Thanks ... ...
  3. Is it possible that too much of a good things can be bad ... ??? ... I will be taking NitroFusion/PlantFusion & Vega Sports Protein Powder 4x a day ( 2 of each ) to supplement My protein intake ( due to money @ somepoint - just nitro & plant fusion )... With all the aminos & such, can it be too much ... ??? ... Couldn't find any info on the net ... My nutrition will consist of -Vega after morning workout with added mixed berries & 1 banana -Large salad consisting of 4+cups leafy greens, 2 cups chopped vegetables, flax oil, sesame seeds, dulse flakes, tablespoon of chopped walnuts, 1/2 to cup of cooked quinoa. - Protein drink -Snack of Apple & almonds -Another large salad for dinner w/added 1/2 beans and/or amaranth -Protein drink -Snack -Protein drink before bed Starting Stronglifts 5x5 with off days consisting of 20 mins HIIT ...
  4. My lower back is not strong ... Started Stronglifts & I am not ready for the barbell row ... Is there another exercise anyone could recommend in place of the row I could do for now ... Thanks ... ... ...
  5. High Protein intake - Lower Carbs ( Protein powders being a must ) ... Clean/Natural/Organic as possible Start with a 5x5 program to build basic strength/muscle ( add a set of push ups one day, pull another & dips on the third ... Abs perhaps as well ) HIIT ( Cardio ) on 3x a weeks to help shed fat Change routine every 2 to 3 months I assume this would be a good start ... !?! ... Which would lead Me to the question of best ' inexpensive ' protein powder ... TrueProteins ... NitroFusion ... Others ... ??? ...
  6. Never manned a lookout but certainly hauled gear & supplies to many ... The acreage from the infamous Hayman Fire was literally across the road from Our bunkhouse ... My Ranger District as had a large percentage of the Fire ... I arrived on the Pike in 2003 ... Needless to say, many folks around the area were not happy with the Forest Service ... My introduction to Fire also included public relations ( I Am not so good at that ) ... ... I Loved CO ... But, I didn't like the general pop or attitude ... I found the Pac West people more to My liking ... You do have to give up on " better " weather though ... I have to all the lower 48 & still haven't found the perfect place ... I refrain ... The perfect place is among the flora & fauna ... Far enough away from civ but close enough for travel to get basic supplies when needed ... ... & Bears ... Not scary @ all ... I found a stampeding herd of buffalo to be the scariest ... & not so scary but amusing ... Getting head butted by a Mountain Goat in Glacier NP ... He was playing around but kept head butting Me every time I turned around ... ... ...
  7. Wolves in The Throne Room ( Cascadian Black Metal ) Drudkh Enslaved Agalloch Threnos ( Cascadian Black Metal ) Melechesh Deathspell Omega ... Other than Black Metal ... Blackfire Opeth Dead Can Dance Amorphis Katatonia The Tea Party Eluveitie This Will Destroy You God Speed You Black Emperor Heaven Shall Burn I listen to mostly Cascadian BlacK Metal ( the aforementioned & Ash Borer, Fell Voices, Skagos, among others )
  8. A fellow Black Metal Vegan ... ... ...
  9. Natalie Portman is no longer Vegan either ( take her of your site superman 1234 )... ... Ryan summed it up perfectly ... " Stories like this are precisely why I don't give a hoot what famous media darling-du-jour talks about being vegan. 9 times out of 10, within a year they end up telling the world that it was "too tough" and how they "feel better" for having gone back to eating meat and dairy all over again. Seems to me that this sort of thing hurts the movement more than it helps it. But, she's not the first to do this song and dance, and I'm willing to bet $20 that the next famous face who claims they're going vegan for life will end up doing the exact same thing a short time after they've said they won't ever eat meat again... "
  10. I am not a Smoke Jumper ( Squad Boss Trainee on a 5 person Initial Attack Squad ) ... I recently returned to university & am now attending grad school ... I still work for the US Forest Service in the summers except this year ... I am currently in NY but will be returning to Oregon this Fall ... ... I will post some pics soon ... Sadly, I rarely take pictures ... ... I am fortunate to have been literally face to face with a Mountain Lion in Colorado ... An amazing experience ... ... Long story short ... My first fire season was in Colorado ( Pike NF ) ... For many months ( Exploring & on local fires ), we came across Mountain Lion scat & tracks ... During some days off, myself & another would seek out the Lion or its den, from a distance because we did not want to disturb the Lion ... One random day towards dusk, I was walking back to the bunkhouse ( the Fire Crew was stationed in the middle of the national forest ) & rounded a bend on the two track trail & there She was, 4 feet away ... Both of us startled, but either of us did not move ... We stood there for a minute or so before She walked off ... Once in a lifetime ... I have since seen many scat, tracks & have heard the calls, but have not seen another since ... ... ...
  11. Thank you. I will be taking it very easy as I certainly do not want to have complications or life long soreness or the like. My concern was not doing anything. I will able to walk & moderately jog. You answered the question I had forgot ask about protein. Thanks for that. Light weight/ high reps sounds perfect. I am going to use the 4 weeks to formulate my fitness/nutrition goals. I am just ' winging it ' to say the least at the moment, but have made muscle gains & weight loss. Thanks again.
  12. I also posted this in the body building/strength training thread in the vent different people read only one or the other. I have spent many hours reading through the posts especially on training & nutrition. I believe I have come to understand basic concepts of each topic, yet I am still at a loss on where/how to begin. I require surgery soon & will be unable to lift heavy for 4 weeks. I want to use the 4 weeks to formulate goals/plans/routines, etc. I am 5'07", 160lbs. Fairly skinny. Fat around abdominal area. Vegan for 3 years ( & for Life ). The past 3 years were spent at university with summers working for the US Forest Service ( Previously I fought forest fires & was in better shape, but was not vegan, I was vegetarian ( I consumed yogurt, cottage cheese & on occasion eggs ) . I hike frequently & for long periods but have not worked out except for the summer seasons & the past 6 weeks. My goals: Overall health & wellness Low body fat Lower carb intakes Strength Increased cardio Muscle gain Weight management ( not having large changes due to fat ) All around fit - a balance of strength & endurance ( if a perfect fit exist ) My life ( after surgery & upon returning to grad school & work ) will consist of long periods continuous walking/hiking with loads up to 70lbs, long periods continuous standing & bending, constant lifting up to 50lbs, general physical activities such as gardening ( all by hand ), building ( working with wood ), the once a week competitive sport ( rugby ). I will be returning to Oregon after grad school. I will work my land by hand & help to build my log home. I have found in the past that having strength ( muscle & cardio ) help immensely with day to day outdoor activities. I wish to be as natural as possible ( organic nutrition, vegan ( of course ), nothing synthetic or highly processed, local if possible). I am also an environmental/animal activist. Activism can certainly be physically demanding and being in proper health & shape makes for more positive & reaching activism. I also like to keep things simple. I do not mind consuming the same foods daily & do not want to spend more than 2 hours per day keeping fit. Please help with a basic training/nutrition plan that I can tweak over the next 4 to 5 weeks. At the moment, I am truly at a loss on where to begin. Thank You !!!
