  1. At last! TI30 went live a few days ago. It’s a 30 day online program made up of concise written and video segments that I created to help busy people transition to a high-performance, whole food, plant-based diet. While I continue to be extremely pleased with the positive feedback I receive about my books, there’s a catch, you have to read them to benefit. So, with this being the case, I created an online program that gets emailed to participants three times a week for four weeks. Each email consists of a distilled written component with only the most pertinent info. And, if you still don’t feel like reading, you can simply watch the video segments. In about 20 minutes a week, for four weeks, you can gain enough applicable info to immediately begin making significant health and performance gains. So, if your reason for not taking charge of your health has been: 1. Not enough time to read 2. Don’t like reading 3. Don’t know how to read 4. Don’t have money to buy a book 5. Can’t be bothered ordering one online or going to a book store 6. Don’t have time to plant a tree to offset the paper used to make a book, so quit reading books Then you no longer have an reason. TI30 is the solution. Oh, and did I mention that it’s free? The full program in its entirety is absolutely free. There aren’t even any annoying ads on the page… I filmed each video segment in and around the Los Angeles area (except for the last segment..it’s from a surprise location). And I edited them too... Hope you enjoy it. And of course please pass on to anyone who you feel would benefit from it. Brendan http://thrivein30.com/
  2. For about the last year and a half we’ve been talking about having a video filmed that explains Vega inside and out. We had planned to rent studio space and hire someone to interview me and ask all sorts of questions, allowing me to explain the intricacies of Vega and the philosophy that when into its formulation. We didn’t want it to be sales-based at all, but rather a platform for me to get the story and information about Vega out. Once filmed, we would put it online for our reps and brokers to gain a well-versed understanding of not only each ingredient, but also their function and the reason I included each one. Our brokers and reps would then be able to relay this information to the store staff who of course directly help customers find the right products for them. It would also reduce the amount of travel that I’d need to do. But we never got around to doing it. And even though it’s an excellent way to convey information in a short amount of time, I had a hard time feeling good about the “infomercial” style in which it would be shot. Being dressed up stilting across from a slick host with a backdrop of a fake cityscape and artificial plants didn’t appeal to me. So on a warm August day in Vancouver last summer, I filmed myself riding my X-bike up Grouse Mountain. Once at the top I sat on a rock, and as my camera rolled, I talked about the philosophy that went into the formulation of Vega. No need for a studio, equipment rental, or to involve a host. Later that day I edited the footage into about 40min of content. So, even though this is for our brokers and reps, I thought I’d share it with VB&F members. It’s divided into four parts; you can view them all here: Hope you like it. Brendan
  3. Hello everyone, It’s been a while since I last wrote on the forum… I want to let you all know that The Thrive Diet, will be re-launched in paperback and will be completely rebranded in January. The US publisher decided that The Thrive Diet was not the best title and renamed it Thrive: The Vegan Nutrition Guide to Optimal Performance in Sports and Life. They're trying to position it as THE nutrition book for vegan athletes (and those interested in becoming vegan or incorporating aspects of it) instead of publishing what is seen by many (including media) as 'just another diet book.' I see this as a positive sign. It indicates my publisher believes we’ve reached a point at which there are enough vegans, and those interested in the vegan lifestyle, who are also fitness enthusiasts and want in improving performance. I redid the site to reflect the new cover. And I made a little video to serve as a trailer of sorts for the book. You can watch it here: http://www.brendanbrazier.com/book/index.html And the other good thing about having the book rebranded in paperback is that the price dropped from $24 to $14.95. And, you can already get a new copy on Amazon.com for $10.17! http://www.amazon.com/Thrive-Nutrition-Optimal-Performance-Sports/dp/0738212547/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1229633595&sr=8-1 I'll be writing weekly on Amazon.com starting in January. My intension is to build an archive of articles that address questions I get on a regular basis. They’ll cover topics such as how to: - improve sleep quality - reduce body fat - boost physical and mental endurance - improve mental clarity - increase energy without stimulates - significantly reduce risk of osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease, and arthritis. - increase lean muscle tissue - develop function, efficient muscles - reduce your carbon foot print by eating a plant-based diet - raise your body’s pH to reduce inflammation and boost your immune system - improve digestion and absorption - reduce stress without reducing productivity - prepare nutrient-rich meals in a short amount of time - make your own performance-enhancing sport drink, energy bars and recovery smoothies - prepare simple “high net gain” raw food meals and snacks Hope you like the re-branded book! 5. Glad you guys like the book. I'm working on a fitness / training one right now that will come out in Jan 09. At my current pace of posting, I’ll reach double digits sometime in 2011. Something to look forward to... Brendan
  6. Hi, I just wanted to let everyone know that The Thrive Diet is now available in the US. It’s exactly the same as the Canadian version; except for the cover design and that the US version is hardcover. I’m told that it's available at Barnes & Nobel as well as Borders and most Whole Foods. Although it might not have found its way into some stores just yet. The US version of the site is up and there's lots of info on it: http://www.brendanbrazier.com/book/index.html Hope you like it, Brendan
  7. Yes, Kathryn and CollegeB, that is exactly the message we were going for. As vegans we know there are much better plant-based sources of these nutrients than the animal versions shown in the ad, but many don't realize it. I don't know how many times I've been asked, as a vegan, where do I get my; protein, omega-3, iron, calcium, etc. I imagine many of you get these questions regularly as well. This ad is a simple way to show that properly combined plant-based foods deliver loads of nutrition. Also, keep in mind that a large number of those who read VegNews are new to veganism / vegetarianism and in fact many are "flexetarians" meaning they eat some animal products on a weekly basis. This ad, we believe, will give them confidents in a plant-based diet and possibly help then take the next step towards adopting one. I have had several non-vegetarian people tell me that they had no idea that a vegan diet could deliver all those nutrients. Now they are giving it a shot. Thanks for your support! Brendan
  8. Hello, Brendan here... I (and everyone else at Sequel Naturals) spent the better part of the summer getting the first line extension of the Vega whole food meal replacement formulated and to market - the 100% raw Vega Bars! I've made them for myself in a food processor for about eight years now, so once I decided to get them to market it went quite quickly. As with the Vega meal replacement, the bars are of course vegan and packed full of whole foods for usable nutrients. Each 63g Vega bar contains: •10g of complete raw protein for easy digestion (hemp, sprouted mung bean) •6g of both soluble and insoluble dietary fiber (sprouted flax) •6g of sprouts, rich in enzymes and phytonutrients (flax, wheat grass, mung bean) •4.5g of omega 3 & 6 essential fatty acids (hemp, spouted flax) •dulse for natural source electrolytes •agave nectar for easily digested, low glycemic carbohydrate 240 calories Here's the list of ingredients (natural flavour): Dates, hemp protein, organic sprouted flax seeds, almond butter, agave nectar, almonds, sesame seeds, raisins, organic sprouted mung beans, organic wheat grass, lemon juice, organic dulse Unlike traditional cooked and processed bars, Vega bars are 100% raw, alkaline and enzymatically alive, requiring less energy to digest, therefore provide a greater net energy gain. They‘re available at most health food stores in Canada The best part is that both Vega products are now also available to be ordered on-line! http://www.oceansidepublishing.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=22_45&sort=5a&page=2 So far the berry seems to be the most popular. The natural has a bit of a ‘green’ taste (that I really like) because of the wheat grass. The chocolate also contains coconut and tastes like a raw chocolate brownie. I'd be interested to hear feedback from those of you who have tried them. We are having the Vega site completely rebuilt, should be done by mid December… www.myvega.com In January both the bars and meal replacement will launch in the US (Sequel is a Canadian company from Vancouver) Hope you like them, Brendan www.brendanbrazier.com
  9. Thanks Andrew, appreciate it. Jonathan, yes making an additional basic formula is something I'll seriously considering for the future. Thanks Brendan
  10. Hello, Just thought I’d clear a few things up myself. I did formulate Vega; it’s not something I just endorse. I’ll admit that $80 Canadian is much too high. There should never be a store in Canada that sells it for more than $75, that’s suggested retail. Most sell it for $67, that’s standard. Here’s one selling it for $69.99 CDN: http://www.aviva.ca/shop/products.asp?itemid=2309&catid=268 A serving is 500ml, a pint. So it’s really quite large, most people will be full on ½ a serving. Its price is also a reflection of attention to detail and quality. It’s certainly not just a protein. It eliminates the need for several products. Many people have indicated that they no longer want to take several pills a day. It eliminates that need and provides food-sources nutrients in a convenient form. It also has 2.5 grams of maca which is an excellent vegetable for the adrenal glands to provide energy by nourishing the adrenals as opposed to stimulating them which refined sugar and caffeine does. I used to buy all of these foods separately and blend them together – now that was expensive and time consuming. However it was worth it since my performance improved dramatically. Also, where else can you get a ready-to-eat nutritionally complete meal with 25 grams of protein from five sources (hemp, pea, rice, flax, chlorella - synergistically combined to create a “flat line” amino acid profile), 7 grams of essential fatty acids, 9 grams of fibre, enzymes, probiotics and a berry complex from antioxidants for lest than $5? A starchy muffin and a coffee cost that. I’m certainly not suggesting that everyone must consume Vega to be healthy or perform well, but as with all premium foods – especially in a convenient form – the price will be higher than some. In Canada many health food store workers are reporting that one of its biggest selling features is that it is considerably cheaper than buying all of what it replaces. One can certainly take the time to make healthy meals, but not every one has that option – Vega is one solution. As far as supporting athletes such as Robert by providing them with product; it’s something I’m happy to do. As a professional athlete I appreciate how long it takes to get to a high level. It’s a way for me to give back to sport in general. When I see someone like Robert who puts so much time and effort into his training and promoting a vegan lifestyle, I like to be a part of it and support it however I can. Plus of course it helps spread the word about Vega. I know I’m going on here but… You may be interested to know that it’s been reported that between 70%-80% of regular Vega users have replaced their whey-based meal replacements or protein drinks. I’m sure I don’t need to explain the environmental implications of that. Not to mention the “real cost”, referring to the amount of energy needed to produce the ingredients. Hemp (the number one ingredient in Vega) is an extremely efficient crop and is the 2nd most efficient way to produce protein known. It is followed only by chlorella, an algae from Japan that quadrupeds every 24 hours and is 70% protein. One bottle of Vega contains 42.5 grams of it. It’s being studied by NASA for astronaut nourishment during extended space flight since it does not require soil to grow, just water and sun. No soil also means it does not stretch out already “tired” arable land further. Meaning that it is also not subject to low nutrient levels produced by over farming – big bonus. Anyway, its monetary cost is in sharp contrast to its “real cost.” I write about this in detail in my book Thrive: A guide to optimal health and performance though plant-based whole foods. (the Vega formula was actually based on my book http://www.brendanbrazier.com/book/index.html ). By supporting the kind of agriculture that I have chosen to do by formulating Vega, it will bring the future cost of these “undervalued” crops down, so will actually make them more available. Yes, this is still a ways in the future but within 25 years these high-end ingredients will be cheaper than the “artificially” cheeped commodity prices charged for soy and whey. Big companies would not take a chance because the margins are so low, but I did. Someone had to do it. That’s it for now… Brendan
