  1. Ha ha nice one MrBear…DeEvolution? Evolution is such a complex and diverse phenomenon that modern scientist can’t fully explain it. But if all were doing here is making speculation than you can easily make a case in the other direction. Mankind is approximately 2.5 million years old and yet the first civilizations didn’t appear until about 8,000 BC. One of the main reason that civilizations started was because of farming. Once people learned how to grow crops they had an abundance of food and could barter. So you could say vegetables not meat helped us evolve.
  2. Thanks for the video. I don’t have a gym membership as I’m trying to keep my expenses as low as possible. I had forgotten about some of those exercises. It’s been so long since I’ve done crucifix pushups or Jack Lalanne pushups. Now I can’t wait to workout this afternoon!
  3. I’ve had some back pain lately so I bought a foam roller. I roll my back up and down it every once in a while. It seems to help stretch my back muscles and “massage” my spine.
  4. I checked out Hannibal for king on youtube, DAMN! That guy is a beast! Very impressed with his human flag position.
  5. Looking good man, I’m a big fan of bodyweight workouts. Some of the hardest workouts I’ve done have been with nothing but my own weight.
  6. Thanks for the link! I definitely need to work on my diamond pushups. Right now I can only do eight of those. Perhaps I’ll start a journal to keep everyone updated on my progress.
  7. So this year I have decided that one of my new years resolutions will be to perform 100 consecutive push-ups. For me this will be a big challenge and may just take the entire year to accomplish. The most I have ever done is 50. Right now I am out of shape and can only do 20. My plan is to build up my strength so that I can do at least 35 and then start doing variations. Incline, decline, wide stance, close, side step push-ups etc. Is this a good idea to build up a fuller chest or is it not necessary for my goal? I would greatly appreciate any advice from someone who has reached this goal themselves. Mark
  8. Hey precision female, You look great, all your time at the gym has really paid off. You should be very proud. Mark
  9. I remember reading the first couple of chapters of Paleo and thinking this is bogus. The thing that got me was when he tried to explain scientifically how people are meant to eat meat. Something about how our body needs the extra protein and that’s what separates us from apes (I think). The whole time I was thinking if people are meant to eat meat than why don’t we have sharp teeth, or claws, why do we grind our teeth like other herbivores? I got tired and stopped ready after about chapter four.
  10. Thanks for the articles; I found this to be very interesting.
  11. Well I prefer bodyweight exercises than lifting weights…but I figured I’d post here anyway. Hope no one is offended. Just did 180 standing calf raises (divided into three sets of 60). This is not my best by far, but it is my best I could do today. I’m still recovering from a surgery not long ago so I was happy with that for now. Gave me an overall good feeling like I can get back to working out without restricting my self.
  12. I had an app on my phone that counted calories. It was pretty cool at the end of the day to see how everything added up. But I didn’t stick with it, only did it for about three months. I feel if I’m hungry I’ll eat something, if not then I wont. I’m not going to stress about reaching a goal everyday. Baked potatoes taste good with salt. Don’t know why people feel they have to cover them in sour cream and bacon. I'll have to try it with soy crumbles and daiya next time.
  13. Hey Captfit, I was wondering are most of your friends and family vegetarian or do they eat meat? The city I live in has very few people from India. And the assumption is that most people from India are vegetarian, but I’m not sure if this is true. --Mark
  14. Hey everyone, my name is Mark. I have been checking out this website for some time now and decided its time to join. About two years ago I started becoming a vegetarian. Before this time I ate meat on a regular basis, about twice a day. I always felt sluggish after a meal and had bad stamina thru the day. After watching Food Inc. and reading about different diets I started to cut back on my meat. I was pretty amazed to find how much better I felt and how much more energy I had. Recently I decided that its time to take the plunge and become vegan. I already avoid eggs and cheese (yuk) so all I have to do is find a substitute for milk. The hardest part that I find is other people’s perceptions. When people ask if I’m vegetarian I have often times said no just so I can avoid the “why would you want to do that?” or the typical “where are you going to get protein from, you know its not healthy”. For the past year I was doing really good with my workouts. Working out about 3-4 times a week, doing lots of cardio and bodyweight exercises. Unfortunately all this came to a stop one month ago when I had surgery. The doctor says I can’t lift more than 5lbs for two months! Sitting around all this time has melted the muscle right off me. And it’s very upsetting to see my body turn to jello. I actually have been doing some light stuff like arm curls, but with only 5lbs it feels like a waste. I guess the one good thing is that I can take some “before” pictures now so that I can see the difference once I’m able to start working out again. Anyway, excited to be a part of this community. Looking forward to getting some good recipe and exercise tips. Mark
