  1. I feed my animals raw chicken parts. I get them from a local organic farm. They raise free range birds with organic feed. My animals (dogs and cat) do very well on this diet. These parts are leftover organs from chickens who would be killed whether or not I purchased the meat. I feel it's a good compromise...
  2. Sorry I should have been more specific. Thanks to everyone who explained it better. You can sign up for a pay every week program or pay every other week program at your bank. That way you are paying down the principle twice as often as you would if you paid monthly. You pay interest according to principle, so as your principle goes down, so does your interest. Since its compounded interested, you save thousands in the long run. Does that make more sense? Also paying a little extra principle goes a long way.....
  3. If a baby is going several times every 30 minutes throughout the day, no its not normal. Too much pooping will cause dehydration. A lot depends on their age. A very young fully breastfed baby often will effortlessly eliminate several times a day, sometimes after each feeding. Their poop doesn't smell anything ike a formula feed babies (much sweeter smelling) and it's very soft. Formula feed babies are much more likely to experience constipation problems, which of course leds to other problems. Both my kids were vegans until about 1 1/2 years. I was a meat eater then and my husband still is. I wish I never put them on meat. When I did, they didn't have any problems with digesting or constipation (ate lots of veggies) but their poop started to smell nasty.
  4. I just found a cool way to save money for homeowners. I've already been paying a little extra per month towards principle (will save you thousands in 30 years), but just found another tip. You can pay your mortgage every week or every other week, instead of every month without paying extra. (for example instead of $1000 every month, $500 twice a month.) Since your interest is based on the amount you owe, you will save money by decreasing the amount you owe. You can do a search online and figure out how much you'd save by switching. Just thought I'd share..
  5. Interesting isn't it? There is no iron because the baby has enough iron from the pregnancy for at least six months (some say more.) If breastmilk contained iron, it could cause an overdose. Thanks for the info..
  6. Does anyone have any tips on eating junk food? Do you avoid these products all together, or eat them in moderation? Thanks! There are several ways to go, IMO. Choose a healthier tortilla chip (blue corn, red corn, or black bean chips), or even make your own with tortillas baked in the oven (no fat added). If you avoid chips for a while, you might notice that your tolerance for the fat and salt in them is not what it used to be. I used to eat tortilla chips more regularly, but now I have an open bag of them that it's taking me quite a while to finish, because they taste too fat and salty for me--mostly too fat). Some "junk foods" are trigger foods (we each have our own ones, but they are usually processed carbs or high fat foods) that you should avoid bringing into the house. For me, it's potato chips, which I don't eat often at all any more (for this very reason). If I do get some, they are the low fat/reduced fat variety (but not the dreaded "what's that in my underwear" Olestra chips...YAK!), but I can down a whole bag in a short time (and supposedly refined carbs can trigger one's appetite in general, not just for more of the same thing). . LOL about olestra - gross! I've noticed lately that more mainstream food companies have been snreaking into the health food section of my local supermarket. Doritos with Olestra for example -- oh yeah really healthy! Now Toffuti makes products with Nutrasweet. Just awful. Thanks for all of the great suggestions. I'm starting to realize that sometimes I just need something crunchy -- not nessacarily fatty or salthy. I think if I make the substitutes suggested, it'll help out a lot. I'm starting with those great smoothie/"ice cream" ideas for my sweet tooth.
  7. I totally argee with that quitting cold turkey would be best. That's what worked when I got off the real junk (meat was easy, sugar and dairy more of a challenge.) I think it's more difficult for me around this time of year, all the real junk around - it's a mind thing more than a real body craving thing.
  8. Hi all, I'm trying to get into much better shape and continue to indulge in vegan junk: tortilla chips, Luna bars, Knudsen's spritzers, rice dream, etc. Does anyone have any tips on eating junk food? Do you avoid these products all together, or eat them in moderation? Thanks!
  9. Hi I'm Deanna, I've been a vegan since August of 2004. I never loved meat, but enjoyed poultry and fish, then got ill after a family vacation. We ate a lot of meat and little veggies (long story.) I came home cranky, tired and craving brown rice and veggies. I gave up refined sugar and all animal products that day and never looked back. I lost 50lbs in the first 7 months. I still have about 10 lbs to go, but would be happy just building muscle and losing more inches. I'm not toned. I used to run quite a bit but my diet was so horrible, the whole routine was exhausting. I did the whole high protein weight lifting thing a few years back while weight training. I was miserable. Now I'd like to get into weight training again, this time as a vegan. I'm a mom of two boys, both homeschooled, and am a college student myself. I'm enjoying this website, as so many bodybuilding sites are geared towards high protein meat eating diets. I look forward to chatting with you all.
