  1. Hi Folks. Let me tell you about myself: I've always been attracted to the vegan lifestyle but just lived with the cognitive dissonance until 2 years ago (when I was 38 years old). I just decided to make the switch from omni to vegan all at once. I haven't looked back or had any trouble. I've even found a local group of vegans who do activities and eat out (which isn't so easy for a vegan in Missouri). I read several books, including Robert's and one of Brendan Brasier's. My favorite book on vegan nutrition is "Becoming Vegan" by Davis and Melina. I was (barely) obese when I made the switch, 5'8" 210 pounds, living an unhealthy lifestyle. I decided to drop the weight and lost over 60 pounds. I've gone back up a bit but now I'm at 157 pounds. I'm going to lose more because I want to see abs at least once in my life, and I'm tired of carrying extra fat. I also got a sweet dog and I walk her every day for about 45 minutes (just like the Dog Whisperer told me to). Then I got into "Turbulence Training", Craig Ballantyne's brand (anyone know it?). I was focused on bodyweight workouts with minimal rest, and got into the best shape of my life. Four or five months ago I switched to his more bodybuilding style workouts, and I'm loving seeing the muscles start to grow. I bought a power rack for my home, where I workout, so I can do most of the exercises. I just started riding my bike a few weeks ago. I was proud to ride 24 miles in under 2 hours (some of it on gravel). Not too impressive, I'm sure, but good for me. Just to give you another feel for where I am, I recently bench-pressed 57.5 pound dumbbells for 6 reps. (Not much, I know, but great for me.) Basically my goals are: Number one: Stay healthy! then basically keep on keeping on, lifting heavy (for me ) weights, gaining muscle, getting some cardio, losing fat (for a little while). Maybe I will become active here so I can learn from other vegans. Thanks for reading, Mark
