  1. Committing 100% to raw food isn't as healthy as a balanced diet without that restriction. Many foods are easier to utilize their nutrients once they are cooked, as well as some that aren't. It's good to eat some food raw but others are better cooked. Many foods contain toxins that are destroyed when they are cooked. http://www.drweil.com/u/QA/QA357082/
  2. Any tips for losing weight? I have a tendency to overeat and it's killing me. I used to be 140 pounds and now I'm 163! It's really making me unhappy. My plan is to eat about 1000 calories defficient every day spread out over three meals (which means I'm hungry for about an hour before I eat each meal; my metabolism is slow). I wouldn't be packing all my calories into those meals, instead I would be eating normal meals that often every day. For example: Oatmeal for breakfast (no addition, no sugar, just oatmeal) 170 calories Peanut Butter & Jelly Sandwich on sprouted wheat bread 300 calories Rice, Beans & Corn on a plate, plain without any additions 280 calories I know many people would recommend against eating 750 calories in a day, but it's really individual. The main thing is not to get really really really hungry too often because that will greatly slow down your metabolism. I mean, when I was 180 pounds eating whatever I was consuming maybe 3000 calories a day, and then on my diet I was only eating about 1500 calories a day and after a few days my metabolism slowed down (maybe to 2200 calories burned a day) but I was still losing about 2-3 pounds a week and that was fine. Also your metabolism is boosted by excercize, so you can run for 10-20 minutes if you're hungry instead of snacking to keep your metabolism up. Sorry for going on about this. I try to eat healthy. I don't eat junk food, just good food. I try to eat whole foods too. But yeah, I can't stay on track. I don't know why, and it kills me. I overeat. If I do fine for 2 days and have a total of 1500 calories defficient I may overeat the next day and consume 2500 excess calories. It's ing, I know! I hate it! And that always happens when I snack. I have a little snack and I worry about it, and because I worry I eat to run away. It's really stupid. But I can control it with three meals a day. I'm looking for some assurance. My doctor said it was fine last time I talked to him, I just want some other support. Thanks! -Dylan
  3. as it is i do push-ups, crunches, curls and squats - what could i do to build on that and make it work all of my major muscle groups, as it is i only work (correct me if i'm wrong) chest, biceps, abs, glutes, quads, calves, triceps, and shoulders - i still need to work my back? or is it fine as it is?
  4. I am not (at least at this point) ready to commit entirely. I don't think I'd be able to work out all my muscle groups every day. Would it be best to stick only to the abs? Because it would look a little off if I had big biceps/chest and like no back or legs... But a six pack is always okay. So maybe I'll just lower my bf% and do crunches and not worry about the rest?
  5. by results i just mean anything you can look at and see a difference (in muscle mass)

    Hey!

Hey everyone, I'm new. My name's Dylan and I live in Northern California. I've only been a vegan for a few months although it seems like longer. And I've been a vegetarian for seven years (wow, that long?). When I was eight my dad brought home some chinese food that had duck in it. I thought that ducks were cool and didn't want to contribute to their being killed, so I made an excuse why I didn't want any. Then I started trying to eat less meat in general because I came to the conclusion that no animal deserved to die for me to eat. After a few months I just told my parents I was vegetarian because I knew I was comitted by then and I stopped eating meat all together. I play guitar and I'm in a punk band called Painful Truth. I love music, mainly Metal and Punk but I like a lot of other stuff too. Some bands I like are Grateful Dead, Slayer, Pantera, Death, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, Metallica, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Dropkick Murphys, The Misfits, Dead Kennedys, and too many more to mention. I don't know if this is what I'm supposed to be talking about in this division, but hey, why not? I haven't really started bodybuilding yet. (Maybe I have, is weight loss bodybuilding?). I used to be 185 pounds over a year ago and then last Summer I finally came down to 140 after a year's work. Recently I came back up to 160 and that sucks, but I'm losing it again. I did this with a caloric defficiency which worked really well. It also encouraged me to start eating healthier.
  8. Another question: The problem with working out two days in a row (or every day) is that it doesn't give your muscles long enough to heal, right? But if you feel up to it you should be fine to go again. I don't think I work my muscles completely every time and I think I would be ready to do at least bodyweight excercizes (and maybe some simple free-weight excercizes) the day after. (I hear about people who wake up and every day they run and work out). Do you think that would be fine if I did that (body weight excercizes, possibly free-weight excercizes) after working out the day before? Here's some information about me if that might help with these questions: I am 5'8" and 160 lb. I burn about 1500 calories a day (I know, you'll think I'm crazy but I do). I really don't want to gain body fat because I used to be fat (185 pounds, high bf%) and I lost weight; I don't want to go back there. I got down to 140 and recently came up to 160. I'm determined to lose the 20 pounds and get back to 140. I work out now, you can gain muscle while on a calorie defficient diet, it just takes more work and is slower. That being said, once I'm 140 I plan on breaking even on my caloric intake every day (not taking in more or less than I need) and working out. I will gain muscle faster (than on a caloric defficiency), which is good, but unless someone tells me a better way to gain muscle without raising my bf%, I won't take in excess calories. I guess I'll start measuring myself in inches weekly to track my gains and make sure I don't gain fat, only muscle. Of course I'll increase my calories as I gain weight, I just don't want to gain body fat. I really hope this makes sense, because I kind of rambled on. Anyway, if you can just hear this or make suggestions or comments that would be much appreciated. Thanks!
  9. Oh, and is it possible to gain muscle without raising your bf%? How would you do that. And is it possible to gain muscle while lowering your bf%?
  10. How long is it generally before you start to see results? A month? 6 months? A year?
  11. that it's okay to snack. It's healthy and helps keep your body from going into "starvation mode". But is it okay not to snack? I mean it's easier for me because it helps me set limits to eat three meals a day. Otherwise it's hard for me to control myself. And the meals taste so much better, I value them so much more. I think three meals a day spread out evenly is enough to keep my metabolism high but I would like some insight. If you could point me towards some articles or share some information with me that would be great! Thanks, Dylan
