Kale

Anyone have any good ideas for kale? All I've tried so far is eating it raw in a salad and it just makes me fart.

I really like it sautéed with onions, and garlic along with just a bit of olive oil, balsamic vinegar and a pinch of pepper.

I saute a bunch of sliced shallots until they're carmelized, steam the kale in water (salted or unsalted), chop and then mix together.

I like braising it in vegan powdered vegetable broth. Tasty, no oil, no added calories. Takes about 30 seconds for the kale to go limp.

I guess it's like spinach, you can put it into boiling water for only 10-30 seconds, then put in water with ice to stop the cooking so it stays crunchy.

Every made a 'wilt' or 'rub' salad??????

Although a raw friend of mine put me on to the rubbing method first ;)

1) Get one bunch of dinosaur (lacinado) kale
2) Remove the main part of kale stem and chop leaves finely into a bowl
3) Add about a tsp of salt and massage or 'rub' into the leaves until they 'wilt'
4) Add about 2 tsp of fresh lemon juice and massage into the kale again

Make a salad out of your wilted kale leaves :)

Some salad recipes to try:

Hemp Kale Salad
1 bunch kale
1/4 cup hemp seed
1 large tomato, diced
3 Tbsp olive oil or hemp oil for a richer taste
2 tsp lemon juice and 1 tsp lemon juice to massage into the kale

Note: add the oil last otherwise the kale will not wilt as well

Avocado Kale Salad

1 bunch kale
1 large tomato
1 avocado
1 stalk celery
1/4 cup olives
2 tbsp olive oil
2 tsp lemon juice and 1 tsp salt to massage into the kale

Take the avocado, olive oil and celery and blend it up into a dressing to pour over the salad.

Garnish with olives.

I put the motherf*cker in the steamer with the other vegetables, softens it up a bit. Only needs to be in there 10 - 15 minutes, nom nom

I love it lightly steamed with fresh lime and salt. I also like to add it into salad(you could steam it alittle to see if that helps eith the gas) and I love to use it as a topping on pizza and in soup!

I started putting about a cup of it in my green smoothies.
Makes me feel very energetic and gas free ahahaha

Yummy Kale, Heck I just eat it, but love the recipes here. I am going to try a couple of them forsure.

This is pretty simple, Kale with hummus,tomatoes and scallions in a whole grain pita. I use calorie free dressing with it, but veganaise is great too if you still need your fat for the day.

I make vegetable soup w/just water, onions, celery, carrots, zucchini & bok choy. I add salt & pepper to taste & add kale about 10 min b4 its done. The kale gets tender like swiss chard but more firm & has a delicate taste. That's my favorite way to eat kale :)

we usually make kale (steamed i think, it's been a while) with beans and sausage :) it's yummers
