Where do you purchase Tempeh and Miso

#1 Postby LrnWithFn » Sun Jan 04, 2009 1:16 pm

Hello All,

Usually where do you find Tempeh or Miso in your cities. I tried to search in Walmart, Harris Teeter and CostCo, but could not find it.

You might want to try your local Asian foods store. They should carry it.

Wegmans & Whole Foods have it. I think Trader Joes does to but not certain on that one.

My local grocery store has tempeh, right by the tofu. But I have to buy miso from a health food store or asian market.

Food co-ops, health food stores, Asian groceries, Whole Foods, Trader Joes and google for mail order places if all of those fail.

Whole foods, local co-ops and health food stores for miso paste that's worth purchasing. Too much of the miso found in Asian stores (in my experience) has been pasteurized and/or too salty instead of rich in taste.

In the U.S., I think Miso Master is the best miso although others are fond of the South River brand (both refrigerated as miso paste should be). The mild, or white, Miso Master has an aged parmesan taste while the South River brand has an undertaste of white wine, IMO.
Do what you always did, get what you always got.

My local grocery store carries Miso, but tempeh isn't as common. Best to go to the health food store for that.
