A cheaper and stronger vegan EPA supplement ( beats V-Pure on price and dosage ):

Thoughts on EPA to DHA conversion in the body?

Researchers don't know much about it, so my comments or the comments of anyone else are not worth much.

EPA does not convert up to DHA but DHA can retroconvert to EPA (at about 9-10% typically).

Wiki suggests otherwise (as well as the Becoming Vegan book I read).
"The conversion of ALA to EPA and further to DHA in humans has been reported to be limited, but varies with individuals.[16] Women have higher ALA conversion efficiency than men, probably due to the lower rate of use of dietary ALA for beta-oxidation. This suggests that biological engineering of ALA conversion efficiency is possible. Goyens et al. argue that it the absolute amount of ALA, rather than the ratio of nāˆ’3 and nāˆ’6 fatty acids, controls the conversion efficiency.[17]"

Bah I was confusing EPA with DPA.

However, EPA doesn't seem to convert to DHA that well.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19269799

"With no other changes in diet, improvement of blood DHA status can be achieved with dietary supplements of preformed DHA, but not with supplementation of ALA, EPA, or other precursors."

I'm sure this study wasn't on vegans eating a low PUFA diet though, which is what you practice right FH? So you might have a better conversion rate, but still, I'm sticking with DHA.
