We've had a case of several small kittens turning up on our doorstep (how they managed to avoid being eaten by all our dogs, and the foxes is beyond me). We looked after the most adorable little smokey kitten until we could get her to the vets on Monday. I was worried that she may have to be put down, but when we went back in the afternoon somebody had already taken her. :) But, there was gorgeous kitten around 10mnths old (same age as our own kitten)and she hasn't found a home yet (I am going to check on her later in the week). People need to learn that pets are not commodies, and that they have emotions too! It inspired me to write the poem below. :(

Do you remember all the years
of playing in the grass?
Of rolling round in circles
and running really fast.

I used to be your world
your one and only friend.
No-one could understand
the teen your were back then.

And then when you would leave me
from dusk till early dawn.
Who was there to lick your face
and love your gaping yawn?

Then the days grew longer
and slowly became weeks.
No longer did you have the time
to pat me or even speak.

But still I waited patiently
for you to come back around.
With tail ever wagging
still rolling on the ground.

One strange and eerie day
you hugged me really tight.
"it's for your own good."
You muttered really quite.

And then you left me stranded
alone and in the dark.
In solitude confinement
much like your own black heart.

A cement floor for my bedding
four walls my newest home.
A lovely sad eyed stranger
hands me my daily bones.

Now I lay here quitely
coldness coursing through my veins.
"tis for the best" teardrops coursing down her cheeks.
"there is no place for kind 'ole just souls like you and me".

Sleep has overcome me
a dark and cold old friend.
A lifetime of memories
have met a fatal end.

For those of you who ponder
a pet as your new friend.
Remember its for ever,
not something to just lend.

(its not one of my most grammatically worded poems but it has a lot of emotion behind it)

***We also bought another dog on the weekend a lovely little dog 8 weeks old a staghound called "James". Now we have 7 dogs! 1 cat, 7 chickens, 1 rooster, and a wild rabbit called "bugs".**************

When you say "bought" another dog, what do you mean exactly? From wear?

We bought him (James) at a JRT dog show (he was full of worms). Most of these dogs are only used for hunting which means that they go on the cheap, are not vaccinated, and rarely cared for. The last Staghound we were given had Parvo (I refused to let my husband put her down) and she ended up costing us $500  I don't really associate with anyone much from the JRT shows as they talk about some horrible things (most are cat haters and you wouldn't believe what things they think are amusing-like letting their terriers tear apart a cat!). Jessie is out other staghound she was the freebie ($500 later). So now we have Jessie James! And lets not forget Ned Kellie. (we did have Bonnie & Clyde but Bonnie was put down as she had problems whelping). James is sooooooo gorgeous, but you can imagine the mess on Sunday night...a new puppy, a small kitten (lucky we are still renovating and we don't mind manky carpet-but we went through a whole container of bleach!)
