People around us.

It feels as though I am a single white shirt amongst a see of black.

It is getting to the point where I don't even want to tell people about the decision I have made about going vegan.

I am certain everyone must know what I am talking about.

Why on earth would you criticise someone for having compassion.

I try to say that I am no greater then a pig, nor am I more important than a cow.

What gives me or anyone else the right to eat a fellow inhabitant of the planet?

If they truly believe that animals are lesser creatures then why don't the eat the homeless? or poor they would be the lesser creatures wouldn't they? or is that inhumane?

we are all here to live, grow, enjoy and stay alive as long and as comfortably as we can.

And then we die

why should we be responsible for taking away the only thing that all of us (animals included ) are here for.

Because vegans can see beyond themselves, because vegans give a little heart and compassion towards those who need it.

Does that give every other weak, selfish arse-hole a reason to make up stupid insults like tree hugger, hippie, snobby or "turned into a fruitloop from all those bananas" oh and your looking pale already from the lack of protein...????

I would just like to say

You are no better then the cows shit.

I understand 100%. Sadly, I've had better luck discussing Veganism from a health perspective. The China Study is a great tool, and so is the plant-based nutrition course. I enjoyed Derek Tresize's article on protein, pointing out that broccoli has more protein per 100 calories than steak. Plus, it really helps drive the point home when you have a printed copy of that article with the picture of his awesome physique, and you mention that he's been on a plant-based diet for the past 10 years!

It also helps to focus on the sentience of animals, like how human-like "food animals" can be. We won't reach everyone, so I wouldn't waste your precious time on major nay sayers.

I guess I do have to gather the information I need to prove my "argument" but thanks for the places to look for it,

but your right there are some people who just don't get it.

My partner included I have left it to him to make his own decision about it all, but no matter what i show him or tell him it doesn't phase him in the slightest.

I guess Its hard to just accept some people will never care

It is. On the bright side, those that don't care no matter what we seem to show them, might one day care when their idols or whom ever influences them start to care. When their health dwindles, they might start looking into it. And then sometimes, its just the way that someone else puts it, at the right time that does the trick.

For instance, I tried talking to my dad about it, but he kept going on and on about how he's blood type O and carnivorous. I even had him watch Earthlings, yet what brought me nightmares didn't seem to phase him - you can imagine my disappointment. Well, after 4 yrs since giving up on him lol, he's finally starting to look into it, even bought a book on Veganism & wanted to know if I thought it was any good.

From my experience, the best way to influence people is by being positive, focusing on health, and sentience. Sometimes just being the best, healthiest & happiest Vegan you can be is all it takes. The more we focus on the negativity, the less appealing it can be to some people. After almost 14 years, that's how I've had the most success. I've "created" 2 Vegan and was instrumental in helping to create 2 others, and that's only in the last 5 years, when I finally stopped being so negative and started showing people health facts. lol

Hope that helps =)

This one is quite funny actually because people who eat more vegetables and fruit have more color in their skin. The phytonutrients in the vegetables/fruit actually go into your skin. A good way to test your phytonutrients body levels is to test the amounts in your skin and there is actually a machine to test this.

So next time somone says something so stupid to you, try to educate them on the truth of the matter, nicely if you can. (i know after awhile it gets hard to be to nice to some of these people)

The secret is to change your response to people not to try and force somebody else to change.

Ye, I know everyone wants to be right. That is the human nature. But the fact is you can't force people to change. If somebody doesn't want to change he won't! You can try and prepare the best arguments and you can even argue everyday and win many arguments. But even if you win arguments people are not gonna change cause of that. It can actually create more fire if you trying to prove that somebody else is wrong.

I am Vegan only for a year but started eating healthier/no junk food couple years back. And even then people used to criticize. When people see something different they are starting to criticize that is just like that.

I mean I get sick people, fat people, lazy people, no fitness whatsoever people, mentally, physically, spiritually broken people, family that criticize me for my healthy Diet, for me not having extra fat...

So what I don't go by anybody's standards. Why would you wanna go by ignorant people's standards?

If they become really pushy I tell them "I don't measure myself by anybody's else standards but my own".

Why would I wanna feel bad cause they are trying to infest me with their beliefs that they probably got from the media, TV, Commercials or some other cr4p. All this criticism comes from what people were told, many are just brainwashed.

It is not restricted to Vegans. I've learnt over the years to be proud of doing different stuff than everybody else. And I am not talking only about my Diet. Why would I wanna be a copy of somebody else?

I think the secret is to be really proud of yourself and do your thing. Those who have a view beyond the social conditioning will get inspired.

I completely agree, I know it has been hard for me to just ignore the negative slur especially from people who have diabetes and obesity it just blows my mind, and i never try and force something on anyone but it has gotten to the point where I dont see why I should try and explain to people the benefits of being this way because clearly they dont understand the main reason why I am a vegan. I LOVE ANIMALS!

sigh

but you make great points and I think eventually Ill learn to ignore the haters and Embrace the interested.

It's a process and it takes some time. The first step is to be aware of your reactions when people trying to criticize. Once you don't give it fire it just goes away. Ignorance is their problem It doesn't have to be yours.

I can say that it really helped me to understand that I don't have to justify or explain my food choices to anybody. Other people's opinions are not even relevant once you live constantly by your own values.

I didn't see anybody asking fat people why they stuff themselves at MacDonalds or eat cookies all day long. It doesn't happen since being fat, lazy and pharmacy dependent became a norm.

I won't even waste my time explaining to somebody that just looking to criticize or reassure his own Negativity.

Most People are only open to hearing something new when something is really bad for them and doesn't work anymore. And only then when they are willing and open enough, I would educate them about a Vegan Diet so they can choose by themselves.
