Beer?..

#1 Postby Mini Forklift Ⓥ » Sat Nov 17, 2012 1:12 am

Is beer vegan or are there just certain ones that are :?:
Wine I know about (we have a vegan wine company here in NZ), but beer? If not, which beers are okay for vegans?

Thanks in advance and sorry if this is a dumb question.

There are a couple of websites that I used to use (I don't drink very often now) there's barnivore and veggiewines, not sure if they are .com or .co.uk but there are compiled lists of what alcohol is and isn't vegan.
Personally I just drink ale when I do drink, my buddy who is a vegan brews his own at home ahha its pokey! ;)

Cheers mate, I'll have to have a bit of a research online. I haven't drunk since August but do like a beer every now and then like most blokes.

Oh and also, you have to be careful about the country that has brewed the beer, for example fosters brewed in the uk is vegan but it isn't if its brewed out of the uk.. Also becks is vegan if its from germany or uk but not from anywhere else ahha its all a bit odd.

Interesting, I never realised that the same brand of beer could be vegan/non-vegan depending on where it's been brewed.
I normally just go for naturally brewed, organic beers as there's a few cool micro breweries close to where I live; I'd rather give them my money than a standard pub/bar.

Its all to do with the filtration process I think, same here man there's a brand of ales called badger which is a smallish brewing company that's fairly local in dorset I usually drink there vegan friendly stuff a lot of them tend to use honey

I've been hanging out since August! Once the meet is over it's the first thing I'll be drinking haha.
Yeah I remember Badger beer, think I've tried some of their beers before. Not too bad.

For NZ have a look at this list:
http://www.vegetarian.org.nz/content/fo ... -and-beer/

A lot of wines in NZ state on the label if they use eggs or other 'traditional' methods, however despite popular rumour this does not mean that if they don't state this they are vegan.

I emailed a bunch of beer breweries a few years ago, can't remember much from that except Vistoria Bitter is not vegan, and speights is vegan.

Also I believe some spirits and vodkas are not vegan also.

There is also this list:
http://www.barnivore.com/liquor

Mouth watering? That's an understatement as I head into my 12th week with no alcohol. A cold beer wouldn't touch the sides right now haha. What gig are you going to, have fun man!

I miss a GOOD local gig. Metal scene where I am is shit and the beer around here is the typical Bud, busch, PBR, watered down crap stuff.... I am thinking I live in the wrong part of the world these days.
