The 25th Vegan Camp this year will be delightfully situated amongst the gentle hills of Shropshire. Attractive views all round. Not far to Wales and the Midlands. Local attractions include the Ironbridge Gorge and Museum, about 15 or so miles away. There’s also the picturesque town of Bridgenorth, and local market towns of Ludlow and Shrewsbury (30 minutes drive ). The nearest shops (including a Co-op) are in Church Stretton, about 15 minutes drive away. Long Mynd, a local ‘long mountain, Karadoc Hill and Lawley Hill overlook the site and there’s plenty of local walks.

The Ley Hill Caravan Park Camp Site is an excellent location for exploring this area being visited by the Vegan Camp for the first time ever. For the past 24 summers a group of vegans (and those willing to be vegan for at least the duration of the camp) have met at numerous venues around the country. Last year was in Northumberland, and next year we will be in Creetown, Scotland. We are a diverse group with ages from babies up to those in their 70’s, singles, couples and families. Some people come every year and some come when we are in their area.

What is consistent is the friendly, helpful and fun atmosphere, which you will find at these camps. We are able to draw on the many talents and enthusiasm of some of those attending to put on events which in the past has included such things as circus skills workshops, first aid lessons, raw and wild food workshops, rock climbing, surfing, orienteering, meditation, talent shows, yoga etc: we would always welcome new skills or offers and suggestions. We have many children attending each year and it is an ideal time for them to meet other vegan children and to see that they are not the odd one out. Children and adults form many friendships at the camp.

People stay for periods from day visits to the full two weeks. Most stay at the site itself but some stay at nearby accommodation such as hotels or guesthouses/hostels and visit during the day. We usually have between 60 - 110 people come to stay over the 2 week period. Many of us have been coming for ten years or more. We often have communal meals (sometimes with a talent show), sing songs, camp fires (if allowed) and just general lounge-abouts. We enjoy going on outings to the beach, walks in the countryside, having picnics, and visiting local places of interest.

This year’s campsite is situated at Cardington, near Church Stretton, Shropshire. The site is in a quite secluded, almost deserted area. There are very attractive views all round and lovely countryside. There’s enough space, on a slightly sloping site with flat areas. Two fields have been reserved, the smaller one most suited to field games etc. There’s also plenty of space for those who wish to be further away from the communal tent and noisier areas. We do however expect quiet after 11 pm in the communal tent and quiet on the site in general once children are settles for the night. Responsible dogs on leads are accepted. The site has a sauna. There is very limited indoor accommodation available – a self-contained flatlet at about £22 per night or about £110 per week. This unit is attached to the main building. There is one caravan available to rent, on a first served, first come basis, preferable booked by the full week. Electric hook-up is available at one end of our extensive field, this will cost £2 per night but must be requested in advance when booking as pitches with this facility are limited. Also please request to bring small touring caravans onto our camping pitches, possible but needs to be booked. Arrival – Departure – due to the narrow public roads and lanes around the site all arrivals are strictly p.m. only and all departures are equally strictly a.m. only.
