ljk11
I'm trying to post an avatar and the limit is apparently 6 k. This leaves me with an image about the size of my baby fingernail even at low res. I downloaded someone's avatar, opened it in Photoshop and it was 47 k! No fair! Their avatar is hosted on another site. You can upload your pic to http://photobucket.com/ (I believe) if you don't have your own site, and then link the photo. compassionategirl
ya I had the same exact problem. Richard saved the day! He is a computer genius. ljk11
Ha, CG - I didn't want to name names, but it was YOUR avatar that I downloaded and saw was over 40 k.
Richard
if you link to an off-site avatar, you can have whatever size you like. With regards to uploading your own from your computer, you can reduce the file size, without altering the actual dimensions of the image. You can email me the picture and I'll do that for you if you want, and send it back to you; [email protected]
ljk11
Thanks. I'm still trying to do the off site thing. What's the difference between "upload avatar from URL" and "link to off site avatar"?aren't these the same thing?

compassionategirl
Thanks. I'm still trying to do the off site thing. What's the difference between "upload avatar from URL" and "link to off site avatar"?aren't these the same thing? I think maybe it will be easiest if you just email Richard the pic and leave it in his capable hands. Well at least for me because I hate fussing with uncooperative technology! ljk11
I am pasting a link to a photo and it doesn't work. It asks for a link and I enter it...and ... NOTHING.
ljk11
Okay, guess what - Now it tells me it has to be UNDER 6 KB...even though it's an off site image?BLeaaah.
Richard
uploading from a URL means that the image is saved on this forum's database somewhere. But just linking to the offsite URL means that the image is just being accessed from that location, and doesn't take up any space on the forum
ljk11
Thanks. But no matter what, it still needs to be under 6 k. It won't accept my url with a larger file. i will remain blank. Tha'ts fine.
Richard
i just altered my avatar, which is clearly not 6kb to show that you can link to off site avatars over 6kb. You can still email me it! it's no trouble
ljk11
Okay, very nice. But I'd like to just do this myself.WHY, when I paste the url into the box, does it give me the message saying "must be under 6 k"
