Never ate a piece of flesh in my life...

True story. My name is Mike and I was born and raised in Bensonhurst Brooklyn. For as long as I can remember, the thought of eating any kind of kind of animal really grossed me out. I come from an Americanized Italian family and Ive been pressured my whole life to eat meat. My father was actually a butcher and he was so disappointed that I wouldnt eat "real food". All my friends made fun of me too and I'm still the only vegan that I know to this day. I wasnt always vegan. I used to be a fat unhealthy vegetarian until I started to get into muay thai. I truly believe that this diet is superior for athletic performance and I'm looking forward to any information this forum can give me as far as recipes and other aspects of being a vegan.

Welcome Mike. I'm in NYC too I split my time between Bushwick and midtown. I'm curious, your father was a butcher. Didn't you eat meat as a kid before getting old enough to make your own decisions about food choices?

Have you ever been to Champs or the Cinnamon Snail? What are some of your favorite restaurants in Brooklyn and Manhattan? I've only been here less than 2 years.

Whatsup dylan. I just typed a detailed response to your questions but they somehow didnt post. Il try to make this one shorter a to the point. My father was a butcher and a big meat eater but i only saw him on weekends until i was about 9. I was one of those kids who was always a picky eater especially with preferring not eating any meat. I havent eaten it since i was very young. In fact i have no memory of eating meat. I dont know what im missing and i dont want to know. I havent really been into restaurants ever because for my whole life people saw me as weird for eating this way and i hate having the "what do you eat" conversation. Weddings and other family gatherings always made me feel bad because no one in my family understands. I dont know any vegans or even vegetarians. So ive never been to those places and i make 80% of my food at home.
