soycap
Hi All,The quick and dirty is, I have been vegan for 22 years and was veg for 2 years before that (started the veg thing at 17.) I was the chubby kid all growing up and the first time I got to a health weight was when I started the vegan thing at 19 for ethical reasons. Over the years, I would say about 1/2 the time I was a junk food vegan and about 1/2 the a time pretty healthy vegan, and my weight fluctuated accordingly. I have always been pretty active (Mountain Biking, Snowboarding, Hiking, Martial Arts, etc.) and I am most interested in fitness as it relates to continuing to participate in these activities as I get older (just turned 41), as well as maintain my health in general as I age. About 2 years ago, my fitness level was at an all time low, as many other things in my life took priority over my own health. I hit my lifetime high weight of a soft 219lb (I am an optimistic 5'8" at best). Around that time a friend started a weight loss competition and I dropped down to a pretty fit 168 in about 6 months and about 1 1/2 years later I am coming in at a comfortable 178 (with room for improvement.) The loss and maintenance came from dramatically tightening up my diet, running, and gym work (kettlebell, sandbag, and body weight, as well as old school barbell and dumbbell work). I have attached a progress photo from where I was 2 years ago to today. I know I'm not ripped and may never be, but I know there are other vegans out there who also struggle with weight and I hope I can inspire some folks to get on a healthier path. Thanks for the platform and I look forward to participating in the group!
