Robert's Blog: "Everything is Awesome"

Recommended Posts

I decided to start a new section for Blogs. Not that we are short on directory options, but I thought this would be a pretty cool new section for people to use.

On the main site, I used Keegan's Korner as a weekly blog 4 years ago, well before blogs were "cool."

Now they are pretty standard, and here we are with our own blog section.

I'll update mine every few days. I view this online forum as an extended family or community for me. I share lots of personal info and I'm cool with that.

Today I'm out in Sebastopol, California. I've been here for 5 days working with the Tour d'Organics. I've been promoting Vega and Vegan Bodybuilding & Fitness while down here and of course, representing OrganicAthlete. I was one of the original OrganicAthlete members back in 2003 and it's cool to be working closely with them and staying at the President's house. Bradley Saul is a Great guy!

I return home tonight and it will be nice because I've only been home for 1 day in nearly 2 weeks.

I'll get back to work, back down to business in the gym and I'll get my eat on.

Well, that's about it for now, just waiting to go to Santa Rosa and then over to the airport to fly home.

Traveling Today:

Today I got up and had lots of general work to catch up on. I've been in multiple states lately and finally arrived home last night. I got up fairly early to head to Eugene (2 hours away) to do Vega-work related stuff.

I also stopped by the University of Oregon Bookstore and they had our DVD Vegan Fitness Built Naturally displayed in the front of the store. So that was really cool.

I got to visit with my mom a bit, and then headed back to Portland.

Earlier in the day I spoke with Crystal on the phone and later at night got to speak with Potter and Daywalker. Daywalker is over at Potter's house in Virginia right now on his US tour.

Oh, and I stopped by the gym to visit with Big Ben so that was good too.

This summer has been great to see so many forum members in person! My list grows all the time and I'll be in Canada soon and then on the East Coast again so I'm sure I'll bump into more and more people.

Well, time to eat now, got to get my eat on.

Topic: Keeping a Journal

davidtarrfoster is getting on me about eating and training properly again to positively represent Vegan Bodybuilding & Fitness. I'm much smaller than I once was.

So today was day one for me to start keeping track of my food intake. I now have a Food Journal so each day I'll have a record of what I ate, how many grams of protein, how many calories, and the times that I ate with a description of what the foods were.

Hopefully I'll stick with it and have some cool records. I'll also try to keep a training journal and weigh myself every once in a while too.

I hope I'm back on track now. I should go sleep too.

Topic: Moving

Today I moved out most of my stuff from my SE Portland apartment. I was the subletter for the past 2 months and Tuesday I officially move in with davidtarrfoster (even though most of my stuff has been there for weeks).

I love SE Portland and will miss the area. I lived near loveliberate, andesuma, and stores like Food Fight and The Daily Grind, and resaurants like Kalga and Bay Leaf.

In NE I'll live 6 blocks from my sister, just down the street from Vegan Chef Al Chase, a few blocks away from the gym, the Alberta Co-op, Vita Cafe, Thai Noon, etc. and of course I'll live with davidtarrfoster, one of my best friends for the past 10 years.

So it should be a good move. I'll miss Mutakah, the cat I was hanging out wtih in SE at my apt.

I'm sleepy so I should go to bed soon.

I'll still see people. It's just that SE is the best part of the city, it is just totally awesome. I can get there in 20 minutes from where I am now, so it's not that big of a deal.

Portland isn't that big, but it growing like CRAZY. Seriously, I see new big buildings and condos popping up all over. It is becoming quite popular.

I'll still see my crew, we cool.

Portland isn't that big

I would call Portland BIG, but I live in Montana.

The Portland metro area has more than twice the people than the entire state of Montana.

Montana is a big state.

I would like to someday move out there.

My brother lives across the river in Vancouver.

Even if I don't move there I will have to visit soon.

Topic: Busy Fall

Well, I've got another busy season. I'm planning a Vegan Holiday Festival in Portland that I hope draws over 1,000 people. It is keeping me very busy and there is a lot that goes into it. Of course all the set up, logistics, advertising, marketing, exhibits, etc. It will take place November 17th and 18th and then I think I'll relax a bit.

I planned the Vegan Vacation, then went to the Animal Rights Conference, then the Tour d'Organics, and immediately started working on the Vegan Holiday Festival.

I'm going to run out of gas soon if I keep it up. So this winter, once my busy fall season is over I think I'll just chill. Literally, since it will be quite cold.

I'll still be as active on the forum as I can, I'll just have some major projects keeping me very busy for a while.

But we'll save thousands of lives this fall with just this one event, so it will be well worth it. I'm excited about it.

I thought you were going to plan the next Vegan Vacation ? Okay, I should stop harrassing you, it amazes me how much you get done, do you ever sleep?

Don't get burnt-out, I know a lot of us around here would cry if you did .

Topic: Recruiting members

I've been working harder than ever recruiting new members and it looks like it is paying off. We've had about 20 new active members join in the past week. That is more in one week than we've probably ever had.

I'm really working hard to build vegan communities all over the world and it starts with finding vegans who live in the same geographical area. So I'm out and about bringing all kinds of new members to the forum from my own town of Portland to Australia and all places in between.

It is a tough job, not everyone is into forums, but if you any of you want to lend a hand, that would be great!!!

All you have to do is encourage people to check us out and join. I get up to 50 e-mails a day and instead of answering each question, now I just send people to the forum and explain they'll get better answers there. A lot of people here know a lot more than me and it's great to get answers from a diverse group of people.

So that could be one way to bring people here. If they ask you questions about veganism, protein, training, etc. tell them that on the forum they will get their questions answered within hours from people such as vegan doctors, teachers, trainers, chefs, and other people who have been living the lifestyle for a long time.

Anyway, I'll keep doing what I'm doing but if anyone wants to help bring people together here, we can have a stronger impact when we build vegan communities worldwide.

I'm also giving out prizes for fun for those who refer the most people here Tis the season I guess

Have you tried posting this stuff in bulletins on myspace vegan/veggie groups?

Pretty much everyday

I don't hit up the different groups too much because they'll just get annoyed with me, but I send out bulletins to more than 5,000 people nearly everyday.

When I have big events going on I'll post that in group message boards as well.

It's great seeing others help promote the site as well.

Even in my own town I can walk to a health food store and see a poster with Me on it and I didn't even put it up...now that's cool to see

Mypace is a great resource, in fact I frequently mention that 20% of the people here on the forum first learned about it via myspace

Topic: Large groups of like-minded folks

Here is Portland we are really fortunate to have large groups of like-minded people.

We really do have more vegan-type events in one month than most other states or cities have in an entire year. Sometimes there are 3 festivals going on during the same day in all different parts of town and it is hard to decide what event to go to. And these take place every week.

Tonight we had 57 people for a vegan potluck and there were also two presentations there, so it was a bonus.

We do dinners, potlucks, breakfasts, movie nights, sports nights, festivals, street fairs, etc.

My roommate davidtarrfoster just returned from a trip to D.C. He was away for a week and the first thing he said when I picked him up was that he had forgotton how great Portland was and how much he missed it while he was gone.

I know there are tons of great vegan hot spots worldwide and it is wonderful. Portland is just the best place I've seen yet, and we've been voted the #1 vegan-friendly city in America, and for good reason if you ask me.

I'm hosting a VEGAN Holiday Festival here in Portland and I'm hoping to have 500-1,000 people show up...and we just might pull it off

Topic: Heading up to Canada again

I'm leaving for Canada again on Thursday morning. I'll be presenting at the Taste of Health in Vancouver and then heading over to Baltimore, MD for a big health expo. Then back to Canada for more Vega stuff, and then I'll return to Oregon to get back on track with training and planning my Vegan Holiday Festival.

Busy times these days, busy times.

I'm back in Portland and I'm pumped about working for Vega, organizing the Vegan Holiday Festival, and training with davidtarrfoster.

Things are starting to rock and are a lot of fun. I plan on being consistent with my eating, training, and work.

Topic: Things are busy

Things are busy these days, and I look forward to our upcoming Vegan Holiday Festival. Once it has passed, I will really relax a bit and focus more on writing, maintaining the main site, traveling a bit, and in general enjoy lower levels of stress.

Well, I should go, it's almost 1AM and I'm still at Pirate's Tavern (vegan restaurant open late).

Busy weekend ahead.

Robert, tell me something more about the up-coming holiday gathering. I might brave going over the Santiam Pass to get there! I'd like to meet some of my fellow Vegans!

By the way, Yesterday was customer appreciation day at Nature's health food store in Bend. I think the owner there might be supportive of carrying a line of Vega products. I might even get my gym, Cascade Fitness, to carry at least the Vega bars!

It's all about me! I want to have good and healthy food options available to me all of the time!

P.S. You have an amazing schedule! I applaud your dedication and all your work to represent vegan ethicism and fitness to others! Bravo man!

John
