And not like the Brittany Spears song.

So i quit drinking, well...quit getting drunk about 6 weeks ago, prior to which i was shitty ever single night of my life. I still have the occasional light beer. And i've actually been gaining weight as a result. And lately I have been living off of clove cigarettes and ramen noodles. And i feel like crap! Surprise!

I have been thinking of doing a detox like the master cleanse but I am not sure it would be compatible with the nature of my job. I'm stuck on a truck for two hours at a time with no bathroom access. And if i'm not on a truck, its a long walk to the nearest one. My previous experiences with salt water flushing and herbal laxitive tea have been pretty brutal. I wish I could really up my intake of fresh fruits and veggies but financially thats not an option.

DAMN!

I might just try the master cleanse and if i shit my pants at work, at least i'll get the rest of the day off.

Hey College B, I just felt like it was getting out of control. Ya it's a temporary release from lifes troubles but it's not helping anything, and i had a couple night near the end where i was just completely out of my mind. Even pissed off one of my good friends so much that she didnt talk to me for like 3 days, and she told me i was the worst drunk she's ever met. It was the slap in the face that i needed. I'm not objected to going out, having a beer or two, but I dont feel any desire to get drunk.

Forget the fruits and veggies, it's all about the clif bars, soy ice cream and lemon mango Bolthouse farms juice!

Yes!

haha but youve got me spending all my money on a 10 apple a day habit.

Bah! The apples down there suck! You need to come to Pennsylvania in like 3 months, that 10 apple a day habit becomes like....a lot more.

Are you able to buy conventional apples that do not have any wax on them? Every time I look at bagged apples the bag says they have a beeswax or lac res wax. I assume the ones I can buy individually do as well. I have heard organic frutis dont have waxes.

Awesome!

That's a common occurrence!

I remember those clove cigs! Didn't know they were even still around . Yea, ramen will make you feel like crap

Best detox is to go whole, fresh foods (as much raw as you can, even better) with a good amount of water. The advantage gained from eating whole, fresh outweighs the disadvantage of buying everything conventional and non-organic -- by far! Just wash them well.

Best diet to live on is -- vegan, of course -- but making Dr. Fuhrman's Eat to Live guidelines your lifestyle is optimal. Vegetable based (as opposed to starch/grain based diets); fruit; nuts/seeds; and then starches/grains in small amounts is it in a nutshell.

Also, add some Green Smoothies daily (my third post down describes them) for a boost in your nutritional intake whether you do anything else at all!

I, personally, think cleanses (and colonics, etc.) should be done on very rare occasions, if and when a qualified doctor recommends them; and only done under a doctor's supervision. One thing, though, you can do right now to help "clean you out quickly" is eat *fresh* fruit for your daytime intake and have your heavier meal for dinner, if desired; or eat fruit all day. Best fruits are melons for this; but any will do. Drink water as needed.

Another thing is taking some lemon juice (fresh) in some water for the morning, waiting at least 30 minutes before consuming your first meal. This is supposed to help with "cleansing," appetite, and digestion.

Hope you're doing well! And how about giving up the cigs?

They spray almost all conventional produce with a waxy-substance

(be it confectioners glaze, beeswax, they've even experimented with MSG

on produce... ) to make it look "perfect"

Unfortunately it usually tastes awful.

Especially when compared to organic produce, which is not sprayed.

If you pay close attention to the different varieties of apples you

can find organically grown, they will all have a different kind of "waxy"

surface. The apples develop this naturally as a protection..

such as Granny Smith apples are much waxier on the surface than Gala.

I have never heard of that before, since the point of putting the wax on

is for the aesthetics/preservation of the food. Frozen food usually doesn't look very good anyhow...

As long as you're buying (local) organic, you're buying quality.

And don't have to worry about any of this stuff..

Surely local organic doesn't need to be waxed but I've seen Earthbound Oranges and they've got Beeswax...it was a big suprise...thank goodness I'm avoiding citrus anyway

Thanks for the replies guys. Thanks for all the info Raven, I'm working on upping my fruit and veg intake, trying to avoid breads and pasta stuff. Eating rice cakes a little, and also eating potatoes. And oatmeal. I have read eat to live before, i will try to stick closer to it.

I'm working on quitting the cloves. ugh.

But i did get drunk last night arg...been stressed out with work and family stuff and just made a bad decision. But once in almost 7 weeks isnt that bad.

  • 1 month later...

I am so tired of being sick. I've been sick since september 6th. I had a nasty sinus infection, finally went to the doctor after like a week, took antibiotics for 10 days, was better for maybe 3 or 4 days, and then my sinus infection came back. This calls for a big Charlie Brown UUGGGGGHHHHHHH! So now I am taking a 14 day different antibiotic that makes me naseus.

I quit smoking cloves the first week in september too. No more smoking for me. Having a beer here or there casually, but thats it.

I've been eating alot of fruit, and veggies. And rice cakes with PEanut butter and bananas. I quit eating bread, caffiene and sugar. I've decided ive eaten enough rice as a vegan that im just sick of it.

Honestly, i feel like crap. I feel better without caffiene and bread and sugar i can definately feel a difference with those. But I don;t know if I am just not getting enough calories or what. I'm always fatigued, ive been getting muscle cramping. Part of it might be that i'm sick. But it seems like I am sick ALL THE TIME. Maybe it has to do with my nutrition, maybe it is just my body but it really sucks. I feel like I'm a pretty shitty example of a vegan. I'm overweight and always sick. And my shoes are always falling apart haha but thats a different conversation.

blah. this sucks. Any suggestions?

Eat as close to 100 bananas a day as possible...just kidding...when I get a little sick I triple my green smoothies(something like 60oz each day until its gone)...it seems to help...I also do the sweat out technique where I wear really warm clothes no matter what the temp is.

I drink a lot of orange juice, kind of like all the smoothies I made when I was down there. (Did you have one?)

I wouldn't say you're a terrible example of a vegan. You said to me you never get to work out as much as you do because of work, and even with work you don't have the greatest amount of money for nutritious food, which could explain why you get sick, but that doesn't make a bad vegan.
