The Vegan Hippie Gangsta's: The Beginning of Something

Recommended Posts

Well first what can I say about myself to some up the choices I have made to get myseof here.

I was born in Palo Alto California witha Mow Hawk. My Aunt called me stripe( Gremlins was a popular movie at the time)

I was raised by my mom and dad but mostly felt a stronger connection with my mom( Which may be what shaped my feminine ways later in life)

I was farely social for the beginin part of my life. I had friends who lived next door and played everyday.

I was diagnosed with Tourett's Syndrome, Obsessive Cumpulsive Syndrome and Ashpergers at around 7-8 years old. I had to take medicine for it.

I fell into anti-socialism near 3rd grade. I got piked on quite a bit. Been called names too. Some of them I can't say here.

This anti-socialism continued fr years. While I did meet nice people who were nice to me a bit I never really found anyone I could call a friend.

Then after Junior High ended I became fed up with being picked on and attempted to persuade my mother to allow me to be homeschooled instead of going to High School. But instead they put me an a 3 period plan. I would go home during lunch.

It was during my Freshman year of Highschool in Biology class where I met a boy anemd Jason. Back then I only knew him at the kid who sat across the room with a bulbasour pencil sharpener. But after a month or two we started talking. A bond started forming.

During Sophmore year I began to blossom. MY friend Jason( Who from then on became my best friend) introduced me to more friends of his. I took theatre class, got a part in the school play( A nazi soldier in The Sound of Music) and met more friends.

By Junior year I had even more friends and I couldn't have been happier. I would hang out in between B and C hall during lunch and just chil.

I was also in two other plays too during my stay at high school. Cactus Flower( I played a Beat Nik) And Romeo and Juliet( I played Gregory. Me and my friend David opened up the entire play ^_^)

Senior year was hard becasue my Friend Jason was one year ahead of me. But I got to still see him. Just not at school on a regular basis.

Yet sadly it was during my High School years that I developed an addiction to food. Looking back in retrospect I think it's safe to say that my lonliness from years of solitude lead me to this. I would eat alot too. Like 20-30 slices of pizza a week at the local pizza parlor that had a lunch special( All you can eat for 5.95) Frozen bean and cheese burritos( With about a pound of cheese added on the top and bottom and cooked in the microwave, 20 taco bell burritos( Those were addicting. I'd shove them in my mouth whole pratically) And anything else I could gobble up.

And the fact that my Freshman year of High School was only done in half and that I completely flunked Computer class( Seriously learning to type is boring and it was much harder when the computers had instant internet access all the freakin time ^_^) are a few reasons why I never really graduated. Yet somehow I was able to attend some Junior College classes. I only went becasue of my friend Jason. There I met many, many new and cool faces. Sadly the social aspect of it was my only reason for going. I flunked every class I ever took there but Theatre. My head and heart just wern't in the right place I guess.

It was during late 2003 that I decided I wanted to go Vegetarian. The reason....Well I was affraid of brain diseases like mad cow and other diseases like lime disease. At first I made two attempts. The first attempt lasted two weeks. then I crashed. The next attempt lasted a bit longer ^_^. I still haven't crashed yet.

Before I talk about the events that lead to my vegan-ness I'd like to share some more with you.

Flash forward to 2004-ish. I was an Alumin out of High School and my friend called me out of the blue and asked if I wanted to do a high school play. I figured it might be fun doing a high school play when not even inhigh school. And I'd just like to say, Best decision I had ever made^_^. I met so many new people there. The play was called Comedia delight in case you were wondering.

Now onto Vegan. When I first heard it I was like" What the hecks that?" But them I found out what it was and tried it. The first time lasted only 3 months. Then I stopped for about a year and a half ish.

Then something terrible happened. I get the news that we're moving away from all of my friends and the people who helped me shape me into who I am today. I tried my best to stay but alas it was for the bet I guess. Al over the divorce of my Mom and Dad too. Whata shame.

Then I attempted to go vegan a second time which only lasted two weeks. Then the next time it happened was around January of last year. When I started I weighed approximetally 230 pounds( Damn you eating habits and damn you name calling bullies that caused it XD) My diet wasn't very doog though. I never really ate very many veggies( Cept for spinach but that's it) The main things I would consume were beans, carbohydrates, and the ocasionall vegan things I could find.

One day when I looked at myself in the mirror I was shocked. The person I was lookin at was not the person I had seen before. I weighed myself to see how much I weighed it I weighed 190 pounds. And this was around march or april of last year.

Thw weight kept melting away too. and so have my reasons for ging Vegan. I do enjoy helping animals, the enviroment and the betterment of mankind but I see thos as sort of a bonus ^_^)

I've been weighing myself off and on every now and then. I did it recently too. I now weigh 136 pounds ^_^ Wow Veganism really is a good way to loose weight. I jus need to shape my diet up a little. I want to maintain this weight while I eat a good enough amount of food to sustain myself while I work out. I've even goten into Organic living( Well with food. I doubt I'd even switch to organic clothing unless any one of you can tell me of a disease I mgiht get. Besides I doubt them make cool Nintendo Shirts like the one I'm wearing in Organic. and I've also gotten into Organic/Natural/Vegan/Non-Cruel Hygiend Products. Mostly from Jason.

Anyways My Version of The Ultimate Diet Plan.

I call it the: Ultimate Health Plan for the Lazy Man

Morning:One whole Half Gallon of Organic, Vanilla EnhancedSoy Dream Soymilk( Not a cup but to drink the whole thing. I need protein)

Lunch: One whole box of Organic Peanut Butter Granola Bas from Nature's Path( Not that much protein but enough carbs to hold me over)

+

Steaz( Organic Soda + Green Tea to give me a yum while giving me anti-Oxidants.

Dinner: One Thing of Organic Tofu( The size would be much like how Azmala does it but I have a particular Organic brand I like)

+

Organic Knudsen Vegetable Juice( I'd drink the whole thing for dinner)

Of coarse I'd buy A Vegan Multi-Vitamin too to give me an added boost of health.

And I kinda need some fruint juice in my diet. If anyone knows of any good Organic Fruit juice blend with all your days fruit needs plus anti-oxidants please feel free to send me a message. I will replace steaz with it if I find one that is perfect for me.

the reason why I call it the ultimate health plan for the lazy man is becasue there is no cooking or cleaning dishes involved ^_^

And with all of the important updating stuff about my life and what got me here I'd like to share where I plan to go and what I plan to do within the next couple of months.

First I'm studying to get my Driving Permit. I had it before but then my interest in cars went away. And it wasn't due to high gas prices or pollution it was my phobia of the car exploading with me in it that got me worried. too bad my permit is proboably expired now. So I'm studying to take the permit test to get my license. I have been recently introduced to my old desire to drinve. I now want to get a Hybrid car. Hopefully they work like I think. They just plug into yourhouses socket right?

Also I'm working on going to college. I need to get my Diploma first. And before that I need my High School Transcript. Once I get that I will go to Aduly School. And once I accomplish that I plan on trying to get a scholorship to the University of Minnesota. I know a guy who lives there. An awesome dude who I met ont his Zelda forums that I joined. I've knonw him there for 6 months. He lives near there and had said that he was thinking about going back to college( Another online friend (( A girl)) also stated she may be attending that college too) So I'm gonna try with every once I have to get all of this done.I also want to find a temperary job to earn a few extra bucks and start a bank acount to have some fall back money. I don't really need to seeing as how I get Social Security money( 500 dollars a month for being disabled ^_^) but all that money goes to mostly food and for the mortgage( Since my mom needs all the help she can get seeing as how she's a single mother) nd I can't technically leave just yet until she refinances the house and can make it without my money. But even when I move away I'll still try and help her financially if I can. I just would lik a job to start earing extra money. Then maybe I can buy a Hybrid before I leave this September. That way I can drive myself to minnesota with all the things I need to bring( Not too much stuff. A couch, A table, A TV, A dresser and my Total Gym) So hopefully if I do buy a hybrid it would have enough room for the stuff. And the plan for the car payment would be to have everything payd off the begining of September, move to minnesota, find a job before the next payment and then pay off the payment and I shoukld be good. Alot of stuff to get done in 5 months. But hey if the world was built in a day than certianly I can build my own independent life in that much time too.

Now onto my workout routine. I'm a beginning man in the field or working out. So far I mainly do crunches and arm workouts. I use a total gym for most of that. My Dad got it for me ^_^. So far my workout is everyday with eac workout rotating. Like on monday I will do arms a,d tuesday I will do crunches..ECT.

So far with my arms I can do 5 reps of 20 going up( When you sit up and lift the arm pulley's to your chest (( About 5 reps of 20 for those)) )

And Arm Pulley's ( Where I lay down on my back down, reach back and pull towards my legs(( 5 reps of 20 for each too))

But with situps I can't seem to do more than 2 reps of 25 each. My friend Christian said that doing 4 reps of 25 each is better but I can't seem to do it yet. So I figure for the first week or two I will do 2 reps of 25 and build resitanxe and endurance so I can up it. I already feel like I can up my arm amount pretty soon. Like maybe by Friday.

Well that's all for now. I will update this blog with new information regariding my Journey.

Great weight loss story As for you food I suggest you not really focus on getting protein. Protein comes with calories and so long as you not eating too little you'll have more than adequate amounts. At your weight you don't need any more than 30-40 grams. You could do with less and likely be fine and you can do with more but unless your looking to build a mass of muscle I don't think you should eat much more than 60-70grams. I maintain my weight with only 30-40 however I'm 200lbs and ride my bike 300+miles a week. As for the multi you don't really need it if you eat well enough...new studies even say that it has the potential of lowering your lifespan by 5% since mostly all of those pills are completely synthetic. If your gonna take anything take probiotics, spirulina, chlorella or something along those lines. These are actual "FOODS" that are very vitamin rich. The only thing you've gotta worry about as a vegan is b12. Everything else is easy to atain in mass. The best think you can do is eat as many leafy greens as you feel comforable eating and supplement that with fruits, beans, nuts etc...you may like giving sprouting a try too.

Thanks. so I guess all I need is the vegetable juice blend. It has Organic Spinach. But yeah I do want to build a little muscle mass eventually( At least until I look like "VeganBodybuilder" or somewhere close. But I haveheard that most people get too much protein. So I wil buy the cheapese, malest Soymilk's I can.

I'm also thining about trying out for a sport like maybe ollege Football eventually or my favorite..Soccer.

Thanks for the advice. It's sad that most multi-Vatamin's are synthetic. They don't make them with the natural stuff?

Nope...sometimes though Probiotics are sold as vitamins anyway even though the really aren't. However they are packed more than mostly any food is thanks to the sea veggies used in making them.

As for soymilk maybe you'd like to get a soymilk machine. My fiance got us one and we love it. It also costs us only about $0.10 per quart which is much cheaper than anything else. You can also make rice, almond or whatever else you can come up with. Also it leaves a thick paste as access in a filter that you can be creative with. So far I've only made burgers...I just throw in some onions, seasoning and maybe a bit of corn meal and its great...especially when I make sesame milk or milk with brown rice. It costs about $100 but if you drink a quart a day it pays for itself very quickly...it also has a 5 or 10yr warranty.

Thanks for the detailed start to your blog, I hope you plan to post your training ups and downs here, I look forward to seeing your success!

Your on the right track for abs, just keep burning them as often as you can handle, they recover faster than anywhere on the body and so you can work them a lot of times. I am sure you will get to 4x25 or more quickly, if you are doing serious sit-ups for the first time 2x25 is great.

I have found high weight low reps (like 5 sets 5 reps at 80-85% of max) or a pyramid (12x65%, 8x75%, 3x90%, 8x75%, 12x65%) to be the most effective when I was really focusing on mass gaining on other muscle groups like chest, back, legs, arms, etc... Everyone's body is different as I understand it and I think people naturally workout at different intensity levels, so mixing things up and trying lots of suggestions is key.

I agree about the protein and supplements things to, you have to decide for yourself how you want to balance health vs. mass gain. There is no doubt you can gain more weight on high protein, high calorie, lots of supplements, etc...but at what cost?

Best of luck!

Quite a story. Impressive weight loss.

And the fact that you were born with a mohawk makes me envy you.

Thanks . I have a pic of me as a baby with my hair. But I don't have a scanner

Abd thanks orgeonisaac. Those are some really helpful tips. Right now for my arms I figure I will start intensifying them soon. Like tomarrow I will begin doing as many reps/sets as I can within an hour to maybe 2. Then once I get used to those weights I will bump it up one. As for the sit-ups it is quite hard but if what you said is true hopefully my I will be able to do more cruches without needing to stop.

  • 1 month later...

sorry for double posting but I wanted to add a bit to my blog.

Well right now in my life starting tomarrow I will be entering a new stage in my life. It will definentally be healthier. I'm gonna start a diet rich in fresh fruit, veggies, pasta, grains, nuts, beans and then some. Whatever I can buy that I have to cook. When I move out I will worry about washing the dishes. I'm sure there's dish washing soap that also is good for the hands.

But on the workout side. Since it's summer hopefully I'll find a way to keep cool. If I get a job which I need desperately I will try and purchase some free weights for my arms and maybe some leg weights to practice walking and stretching with weighed down legs.

I own a bike and the other day I biked 10 miles to the nearest city. I had Adult school which started at 8:00 am. So I woke up at 4 in the morning and left on bike by 5:23. I got there three minutes late though( Mostly becouse I got lost for 5 minutes <.<)

I know Vegan Potter is a biker. Tell me does it get easier? On the way home I damn well nearly passed out. Within 5-10 minutes( it ws pretty hot too) I became extreamly tired and had to call my mom to pick me up. I really like riding my bike. But I just hope I'll one day be able to ike faster and for longer periods of time.

I had the crazy idea to bike to Minnesota once I'm ready to move( That wouldn't be for several months though. In fact I woulnd't leave until after december becouse it would proaboably be best to stay home for christmas before I move. Do you think I can build my strenght on the bike by riding it everyday in time and is it even a good idea to bike all the way to minnesota? I mean I think if I can improve not only my speed but the lenght of time I can go for it shouldn't be a problem. But I was so tired on the way home I felt like quitting.

I had so many plans for my bike too. I was going to get a new more comftable seat and even get a detachable MP3 player witha built in speaker so I could listen to all my favorite 80's songs. Should I continue to ride my bike?

It does get easier to ride long distances...especially if you have a road bike.

As for cycling to Minnesota it all depends on fitness and money. If you plan on going in December you probably won't want to sleep in a tent which means hotels. If you're fit enough you can handle 3 hours here and there and space it out enough to ride 100miles every day or more if you need no rest but if not you'll need to stop every 50 miles or so to stay in a hotel which gets pricey.

Yeah I figured hotel prices would be a burden. But I figured since my current speed is 5 miles per hour and I could travel between two cities in two hours than perhaps I'll get better.

I had figured that I'd stay in a cheap motel every night for 20 bucks and spend another 20 on food to bring along with me. But I do like the sleeping in a tent idea. Save on money and I could carry around stuff to cook my food. My fathers cousin biked from california to peru.

I think I'll space my bikeing out. I'll bike 20 miles a day every other day then eventualy my legs will get used to it. Then I'd just up the bike routine a bit more.

Hotels aren't as cheap as they used to be. I just drove cross country and we only saw one hotel at 29.99 and a few at $35. Most were all $40 or $50 which was a huge surprise for motels.

Well today I had some pretty good food. I tried some of that organic high fiber oatmeal. I cooked it with soymilk instead of water to upp the fiber and protein. The soymilk I used actually had a bit of fiber. 4 grams per serving.

And for Dinner I made some de-licious brown rice penne pasta and crushed tomatoes. All organic of coarse. too bad I didn't have any sea salt to add any flavor to it.

I don't know how I did/do it. I haven't had a conventional soda in years. The closest thing I've had is an izze from starbucks.

well anyways on my Minnesota plans. I will try and go when the weather is nice. Or I'll just stay at hotels. Of coarse it would proaboably be snowing so it's best to wait.

I did some jump rope today. I don't get to do it often becouse usually my younger brother and sister don't go outside. And it's boring by myself. If I lived in a neighborhood with people my own age who spent time outside and stuff like that I'd be outside more often.

I really want to get a membership to the local raquet and health club. But usually money is chapped. And I really, Really want to being going to the pool but usually that cost's money too.

Currently my workout hasn't really took off yet. I wanted to wait until my diet became more stable. And now it has.

I have my own total gym but I'm afraid it won't do anything for my arms. I keep hearing free weights are the thing but I don't have money ;-;.

But I do love jump rope. I can do it backwards. And as soon as I get the means to record I will put up some videos.

Nope that was a first for me. But thanks for showing it to me. I agree with the poster. I never liked gender roles much. I do what I like in life. If I want to dye my hair pink and watch Die Hard at the same time, I do it ^_^

My diet has improved greatly in my opinion. I just went shopping at Railey's today and was able to buy 3 pounds of Spinach, 2 packages of whole wheat flax penne pasta, Pasta Sauce, Oat Meal, Blue Berries, A Pound of Carrots and a pound of green onions.

I basically have to live on a budget of 20 bucks becouse my ssi money has to be budgeted for food and for housing for my mom since I live with her. No one in our house works. Everyone is disabled. But I'm looking for work. That way I can increase my food budget, start going to a real gym and make money to move out.

I found work. This is awesome. Soon I will start work at Target. The job starts at $8 an hour and the hours are from 4am to noon. So I will be saving quite a bit of money and using a small bit of each pay check to fund a personal gym. It would save money as opposed to going to a real gym.

So I'm just awaigting the phone call. Hopefully they call soon. I feel all giddy like a girl waigting for the phone to ring.

I went on the interview( two actually) then to a drug screening and background check on Tuesday.

So hopefully by today or tommarow I will get a call on when I start Orientation.

Thanks Liz

I'm more happy that I can begin saving money to move and help my mom with the bills. They raised our mortgage by 400 dollars this month. She is disabled with MS and lives on Social Security. My brother and Sister both have Fragile X( He is 17 but doesn't work) and she is 13( Too young lol) My parents are divorced. So we live off the goverment. But now that I have got a job and I will be doing my best to support them until she can refinance and my brother can apply for more Social Security.

As for the move. I am torn between three places. Minnesota( I know a dud there whom I have known at this Ledgend of Zelda Forum since September of last year.

Then there's a girl I know who lives up in Montreal. I actually have a crush on her and I think she has one on me. But I feel weird becouse she is alot younger than me. But I would love to live there anyways just to hang out. We have so much in common. But the age is a bit much. She is 10 years younger than me. It wouldn't be so bad if she was older though. Relationships have happened between people who are 10 years apart.

Then the next place I'd like to live would be near the San Jose/Milpitas/Freemont area. This would proaboably be best. It's only 2 hours away from mum, They have a Trader Joes in Freemont( FTW) And I know two cool people there too. One of whome I have had a crush on for a while. She is also a bit younger than be but not as severe as the last. She is 6 years younger than me.

XD now before you all call me a Pedophille( Which one guy online had caled me) there only crushes. I'd never date anybody 18 and younger. But I do think if my soul mate was younger than me. I'd just wait till she was older. I could wait 10 years before getting a girlfriend. I am going to be 23 in 13 days and I have never had sex, had a girlfriend or even been kissed. I am in no rush. For the right girl I'd wait. What's the point of jumping into a relationship?

I also got a Cell Phone. AWESOME. My mom accidentally washed her phone in the washing machine. She didn't have the money to replace it( We are with Metro PCS) so she needed to sign a contract. We went with Verizon. We got a great deal. A family plan. both phones free. All we needed to pay was the sales tax. So I gave her the money that was supposed to go for food to help pay the sales tax. I'll be okay. I was able to get some food. And once I get a job I plan on creating a 50 dollar budget at Trader Joes.

The only downside is I am only allowed to call at night( Starting at 9pm and ending at 7am), Weekends or to other Verizon Wireless customers.

But it's alright. I'd mostly use the phone to let my mom know when to pick me up and stuff.
