jonathan Posted October 12, 2005 Share Posted October 12, 2005 weight training causes the metabolism to increase in speed for up to 16hours after a workout, so you are burning lots of extra calories. also, any mass you gain in muscle burns calories too. 1lb of muscle burns 35cal extra a day, whereas fat burns 2cal. plus weight training is much more fun than running! jonathan Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
madcat Posted October 12, 2005 Share Posted October 12, 2005 I would say the best thing is something you enjoy. I hate running and so it is very hard for me to stick to it. Also for me being part of a team is a real plus. I like meeting new people who share a common interest. It also helps me to know that others are counting on me to show up to practice and to push my self as hard as I can. When I lift weights I am often the only female there and no one talks to me. Of course I’m not there to socialize, but it makes me feel like a leper. Boxing is awesome! I really like it. I have been taking classes a community center, its cheap.
