Vegan cycling team for cross-country ride??

#1 Postby andesuma » Sun Apr 13, 2008 10:30 pm

Ok, so... deep in my heart, I've ALWAYS wanted to cycle
across the nation. Or just down the pacific coast!
Anyhow...

This blog is fantastic!

Reading that blog got me thinking, why don't we organize... one day,
a big vegan cycling trip??
We could have the east coast cyclers meet up with the west coast cyclers
in Missouri or something! Then we could have a big VBBF meet up!

Ok, sounds good to me! Any one else in? hah

:D

Don't even go there andesuma!!!!!!

I have wanted to do this for about the last 4 years.

I have all the necessary equipment, a touring bicycle (koga miyata), Ortlieb rear and front waterproof panniers and handlebar bag, sleeping bag, tent and clothing.

I also belong to http://www.adventurecycling.org and they have detailed bicycle maps throughout the entire country.

My goal was to do nyc to oregon and then another time nyc to chile. I am down; it is prob expensive and def time consuming but where there is a will there is a way. I have already taken initiative; just need to make it happen.

I've actually talked with Organic Athlete leaders about doing this in the future(before I was a board member). I'm thinking we'll do a supported ride with elite cyclists first(this won't be soon...lots of other things are in the making but its in our thoughts) due to sponsorship reasons...plus if we do it at a very fast pace without having to carry tents, food and change our own flats we'll look really professional. After that I'd like to think we'll be able to have some type of annual long tour that'll be at an enjoyable pace but with some support in terms of food and boarding.
