Day Of Reckoning
Matt Lindland vs Vitor Belfort
Josh Barnett vs Gilber Yvel
Vladimir Matyushenko vs Antonio Rogerio Nogueira
Fedor Emilianenko vs Andrei Arlovski

normally the odds would be heavlily against anyone fighting Fedor. i would say his is still the favorite, but with Fedor's recent loss in World Combat Sambo Championship, his fight against Andrei Arlovski just got a bit more interesting.

while I do agree that it is interesting, I don't think a sambo loss will affect the odds of an MMA match at all...

that KO was insane...

plus the Belfort KO and Babalu's D'arce choke

all around solid event.

hahahah Yvel vs Barnett seemed to last FOREVER though.

I thought the event was okay - it really was all about Fedor vs. Arlovski. There's another one for Fedor's reel. Fedor looked especially relaxed - so relaxed he almost looked hurt right before the KO. That must have been what tricked Arlovski into being confident enough to try a flying knee.

naw, no elbows. first punch landed solid on arlovski's chin, the next swing missed, cuz arlovski was already on the way down.

here's a replay

and the next Affliction event has been made official:

AFFLICTION TRILOGY
Aug 01, 2009
Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif

Image

Main Event:
Fedor Emelianenko (#1 ranked heavyweight) vs Josh Barnett (#3 ranked heavyweight)

i'm glad they finally paired these two up against each other. it's been a long time coming. and for Fedor, Barnett is the best competition he could face right now. some publications even rank him as the #2 heavyweight behind Fedor. still... Fedor makes disposing of top 10 heavyweights look easy.

thought no other fights have been made official, they have said that Tim Sylvia, Babalu Sobral, Paul Buentello, Gegard Mousasi, and Vitor Belfor will be fighting that night as well.

Ok so what are we talking about 1, 2 , 3 ,minutes? No I am only kidding. Who is the number 2 heavyweight in the world if Fedor is 1 (ofcourse) and barnett is 3?

really depends on who you ask. Sherdog ranks Andre Arlovski (yeah, the guy Fedor just knocked out) at #2, and MMA World ranks Frank Mir as #2 heavyweight. however, MMA Weekly rank Josh Barnett as #2 and Frank Mir #3. but all of them agree that Fedor is ranked #1.

one new bout has been made official for Affliction: Trilogy. Renato "Babalu" Sobral vs Gegard Mousassi

it will be interesting to see what happens after the fight between Mir and Lesnar. I am really lookiing forward to that fight. I would say that lately I have been looking forward to fights in the UFC more then outside the UFC . Which is a change over the last few years.

Disaster Strikes Affliction!

Barnett will NOT be fighting Fedor on Aug 1st.
Source

"Josh Barnett has been pulled from his main event match-up against Fedor Emelianenko due to an alleged positive test result for a banned substance from the California State Athletic Commission"

Barnett's response: “no matter what happens with this, I can assure you I will clear my name. This will not be something that I am defined by.”

in the meantime, Affliction is scurrying trying to find a replacement to face Fedor with 10 days to the fight.

Word is the guy to step up may be Vitor Belfort. I dont see Affliction lasting after this show. Which is unfortunate cause the UFC really needs some competition. I guess we'll see if Affliction crumbles because Barnett is a big enough idiot to be taking steroids in the first place.
"After he gets in there with me and i knock him out, he may want to go back to japan or some place where the competition is a little easier." Chris Leben before getting knocked out by Anderson Silva.

OH SNAP!!

AFFLICTION CANCELLED?!?!

it's still breaking news, but i'm seeing this on a couple of different websites now.

i guess without an adequate replacement to fight Fedor, they decided to scrap the whole thing all together.

wonder when the official word will come from Atencio.

EDIT:

“Finding an opponent for the No. 1 ranked MMA heavyweight champion in such a short period of time was a huge endeavor and I’m thrilled at the amount of fighters willing to take on this challenge,” stated Atencio. “But in the end, we just didn’t have enough time to promote a new fight to our standards.”
