oh I love spinning! having a good instructor makes all the difference though, for me.

Got to agree! There are three instructors where I go (and one other at a different NYSC branch that I occasionally frequent.) Only two (interestingly enough, both of the guys) are really energizing. I slog through the female's routines, but there's just no fire...

Also interesting is that three of them are kind of, um, stout. You'd think spinning instructors would all be lean mean workout machines, but not so. But if they get my blood pumping, who cares?

...so just started back with the spinning. (I was taking some time off and playing with the elliptical these past few weeks.) Good to be back. STILL amazingly upset with my inability to lose the 13lbs that I have left to my goals. It's been forever...probably mostly due to my diet which has been on-off. Grrrrrrr. Granted, I'm not fat, but it's still very, VERY frustrating. We'll see how this new spate of spinning classes pays off (along with the lifting, of course...) :(

Ok, I take back everything I once said or thought about spinning. I had the best workout on Monday. The instructor wasn't even spinning the whole time, but boy she knew how to beat us up. :lol: Then to top that off I had the most difficult 15 minute ab session right sfter I spun. I can't wit to try spinning with the actual tri club!

A way to *really* burn the legs while spinning

Yesterday, while trying to change up my body positioning in spin class, I come across a great way to REALLY SERIOUSLY burn the legs. (Generally, spinning class ends up being a sweat fest and cardio challenge for me, but not that much by the way of leg work.)

While standing in the stirrups, *lock* your arms into the front handles so that your entire top half is stationary, and the legs are doing every bit of the work. *No bouncing in the stirrups at all.*

Personally, I'm finding that I can't do more than a half minute at a shot, which is perfect for intervals. The next day, my legs are *torched.*

....which is great for me, 'cause legs have always been one of my weak points...
