Oh. My. God.

I am *so* not a cardio person. Never have been - couldn't stand the aerobics craze back in the 80s, don't generally like group classes. The only cardio I ever loved was Jujitsu, and a tiny bit of jogging, before I was injured, and had to drop out of both.

But I'd been seeing people coming out of the classes, absolutely drenched in sweat (which reminded me of my martial arts days), and I just had to try.

Wow.

I am so hooked. 45 minutes long, it kept me engaged, and man, did we all sweat! A few weeks of this--along with my usual heavy lifting--and (I'm hoping) that I'll be seeing some serious definition.

Yay! What a great class! (Funny, since it seems like only group cycling..!)

This is quite interesting, as I hate spinning! I love to run, but I never seem to get a good workout when I spin. I guess it's just not for me. It's not the instructor either, because I've taken several different types of classes, with different instructors. The only thing that makes me sore is the seat that I sit on, and no the pads don't really help. Glad to hear you've found some cardio activity that you like! Keep it up!

I Love spinning classes as well.

Being a cyclist (A bit of a lazy one lately I must admit) I thought I would hate it, but I love it.

I find myself pushing it hard and harder every week.

You will get fit and get definition in no time.

Being a group class, if you go to the same sessions each week, you get to know people and chat etc

it's very social.

I've been on a date with an instructor too!

Ah, good times, good times.

This booty's stayin' under wraps , but trust me... if you amp up the tension on those spin bikes, you'll see a difference....
I meant clothed booty photos. I'm going to have a friend take pictures of my booty so I can start a booty call thread.

Hey, Robert can we have a VBBF Baby Got Back contest?

Can't swear re: any booty development (yet) - but I can now say that I've done 5 spinning classes in a row, and it's still good. Okay, painful at times, and there are moments that I want to just...well...stop....but the *adrenaline* rush at the end is great! (Course, I'd rather be taking free falls and joint locks, but that's how the cookie crumbles...!)

I just went to my second spinning class yesterday.

I meet up with bike friends every now and again and we have races/alleycats in the city. I tend to get smoked due to my lack of endurance once getting to high RPM's (I ride fixed wheel)

So I decided to do some spinning as its free with the gym membership I just got.

Im really keen on it, as it should techincally be the best thing for developing my speed & cardio.

But my god, those saddles are evil!

I was determined to keep my RPM's above 130 throughout so kept persisting despite totally crushing my balls. I tried to change saddle angle, change bikes but none was working and I ended up getting a pretty serious strain on my inner thigh!

Was better with a week of recovery but went again with a wrench this time, still was painful. I just cant understand why no body else even noticed, I think I was the only cyclist there yet I was finding it the most difficult because of the discomfort!

You need cycling shorts with a padded chamois. It will increase comfort when in the saddle tenfold. If you are shy about wearing "Spandex" then just wear them under some baggier shorts.

Those spin bike saddles can be brutal though I know. It's funny how people think skinny racing seats are uncomfortable without every trying them. The modern designs actually work quite well and are very comfortable. It's all about ergonomics. Most spin bikes come equipped with big, poorly designed saddles.

Got to agree! There are three instructors where I go (and one other at a different NYSC branch that I occasionally frequent.) Only two (interestingly enough, both of the guys) are really energizing. I slog through the female's routines, but there's just no fire...

Also interesting is that three of them are kind of, um, stout. You'd think spinning instructors would all be lean mean workout machines, but not so. But if they get my blood pumping, who cares?

...so just started back with the spinning. (I was taking some time off and playing with the elliptical these past few weeks.) Good to be back. STILL amazingly upset with my inability to lose the 13lbs that I have left to my goals. It's been forever...probably mostly due to my diet which has been on-off. Grrrrrrr. Granted, I'm not fat, but it's still very, VERY frustrating. We'll see how this new spate of spinning classes pays off (along with the lifting, of course...)

Ok, I take back everything I once said or thought about spinning. I had the best workout on Monday. The instructor wasn't even spinning the whole time, but boy she knew how to beat us up. Then to top that off I had the most difficult 15 minute ab session right sfter I spun. I can't wit to try spinning with the actual tri club!

Yesterday, while trying to change up my body positioning in spin class, I come across a great way to REALLY SERIOUSLY burn the legs. (Generally, spinning class ends up being a sweat fest and cardio challenge for me, but not that much by the way of leg work.)

While standing in the stirrups, *lock* your arms into the front handles so that your entire top half is stationary, and the legs are doing every bit of the work. *No bouncing in the stirrups at all.*

Personally, I'm finding that I can't do more than a half minute at a shot, which is perfect for intervals. The next day, my legs are *torched.*

....which is great for me, 'cause legs have always been one of my weak points...
