physical therapy is getting boring, what can I do?

#1 Postby dontxhide » Thu Jan 08, 2009 6:04 pm

There isnt much variation in what my physical therapist for my shoulders wants me to do. I feel loads stronger and better, and have started light shadow boxing and bag work again! Something I never would imagine 3 months ago.

But the exercises are getting boring. He has given me progressions. Like do this exercise, once your strong enough, you can do this. Right now, Ive maxed all the variations so far, except two.

But it feels like Im just going through the motions now.

It feels like the first couple of months when I first started weightlifting. Really not knowing what to do so I did bench presses, sit ups, and pushups every exercise. Rearely increasing weight and rarely variating things.

I know your muscles get stronger by changing your workouts. Does this work with physical therapy? Should I go backwards in my workout? Like instead of seated dips last, do those first, and instead of rubberband work first, that last?

I should ask him I know. But Im bored at work :)

I went through a similar thing, rehabilitating a shoulder injury.
The standard exercises I was given by a PT, became very easy and I things seemed to stop getting better.
So I went to see a PT who specialised in Sports Injuries, and has a lot of sportsman on the client list.
They gave me a list of harder exercises and a weight training program and things continued to improve again.
Now I only see the Sports PT, as they understand what I want to achieve and get me there a lot faster.
I guess that doesn't really answer your question, but I would go back to your PT or see someone who has a sport focus.
Have you ever loved someone so much you didn't care what happened to yourself?
You Just had to be with them.
If they look at you, your heart stops.
If you feel their breath on your skin, you just ache.
Have you ever craved someone so much you didn't exist anymore?

Well, I'm in physical therapy right now, and the best thing to do, is ask your therapist. My therapist has been great about upping my exercises or changing them. I'm not sure what kind of exercises you are doing, but you could always add resistance or weight to it.

Then again, it all depends on what your doing.

Sounds like your doing great in recovering though! Good luck.

Have you tried swimming? I know any kind of exercises in water are very beneficial. Check with your PT and see what kind of exercises or water routines you can do.

Thanks for your replies! My PT wont be in town until Tuesday, so I did everything backwards and felt like I actually working out again.

Im gonna ask him if there is different things I can do when he gets back into town.

I cant wait til Im all healed!
