ronnie kray
i just found out vegan MMA fighter and former King Of The Cage lightweight champion Mac Danzig will be on the new season of the Ultimate Fighter - Team Serra vs. Team Hughes. "The cast for “The Ultimate Fighter: Team Serra vs. Team Hughes”: Matt Arroyo, Daniel Barrera, Blake Bowman, Mac Danzig, Paul Georgieff, Richie Hightower, John Kolsci, Troy Mandaloniz, Billy Miles, Roman Mitichyan, Dorian Price, Jared Rollins, Ben Saunders, Joe Scarola, George Sotiropoulis, and Tommy Speer."info taken from this article this season has welterweights and Mac usually fights at lightweight. i hope that doesn't work against him. i am also wondering how he is going to handle being the only vegan in a house full of meat eaters. i wonder if the other fighters will give him any slack for it. New Season Premieres Wednesday, September 19 At 11:00pm On Spike TV here's hoping he dominates all his opponents this season. WAR DANZIG!!! Cause that in turn means he will be a UFC fighter after the show. Assuming he does good which I have no doubt in my mind. I just hope he gets on team Hughes. Im still a little bitter about Serra KOing GSP.
ronnie kray
Mac Danzig should do excellent this season. i was doing a bit of research, and he has the best record of any fighter this season. he has the most experience, and is the only fighter there who has already held a title (King of the Cage lightweight champion). he should be a favorite to take it all. i hope we see him all the way to the finals! http://www.cdn.sherdog.com/_images/pictures/7/7199.jpg http://www.cdn.sherdog.com/_images/pictures/18/18187.jpg http://www.cdn.sherdog.com/_images/pictures/21/21336.jpg http://www.cdn.sherdog.com/_images/pictures/21/21340.jpg

Trev
well since i dont have cable to watch this ill be looking to you ronnie to keep me updated! you have internet tho I was pretty amped about the new season, but after reading this, I'm even more amped! Hope he does well, and I hope he didn't have to compromise his diet. I wonder if he won't be cutting weight as much as a lot of the other guys to get to 170. I don't know how much he cut to get to 155. I guess we'll find out. Of course I can't weight to see the Matts fight at the finale. I'd like to see Serra win so GSP can avenge his loss and regain the belt.

ronnie kray
i don't know if you could find the fights. they would probably get yanked off pretty soon, just like the PPV fights. but i am sure you could find the results once the get the ultimate fighter website up and running. which shouldn't be too long since the season starts in a few weeks. edit: the site is already up and running! http://www.theultimatefighter.tv/ here is a link directly to Mac's bio page. BJJVegan
I found this great site that posts the big fights.http://www.mmalinker.com/It even still has Coture VS Ganzaga on there. So if youve missed a fight thats the place to go.Just a small tip though when it says "unable to stream video," right underneath that will say"go directly to hosting sight" just click that and itll take you to the site with the fight on it. It took me a bit to figure that out.
finbarrio
Awesome news. I wondered if he would be given a shot on the show - he certainly deserves it. I bet you they won't make too big a deal about his diet. Given his physique and fitness, some of the other fighters might be very interested in hearing about what he eats. Maybe he'll even convert some of them .
BJJVegan
I have a feeling they will make a big deal about his diet. At first at least but once hes kickin ass they wont have much more to say.
fudgam
The show will probably follow Mac's diet for less than one episode. Like with Luke Cummo.

finbarrio
Mac mentioned his veganism first episode, also fought and won the first match. Go vegans! Yeah - he was funny when he was talking about eating - about how the other guys can eat chicken and beef but he wouldn't eat that "gross" stuff. *Spoiler Warning*He looks like he's in good shape, only to get in better shape with Hughes. He manhandled that kid - getting a BJJ blackbelt on a triangle is pretty impressive, even if the kid did appear to fall into it rather easily (one might say suspiciously easily). Danzig's experience came through in the way he carried himself - poised and confident. It felt good seeing a vegan badass like that on tv. When he was talking about getting angry about his food and his sleep - that was pretty funny. I'm the same way!
dontxhide
Finbarrio. I actually think he said something like, "i cant just go in the kitchen and eat the beef and chicken in the fridge, I dont eat that garbage" Something like that. Sorry to correct you, but when he said that I was sold on him!

dontxhide
Exactly. That whole fight I was on pins and needles hoping he would win. It would be sweet if he went all the way, score one for the vegan team!
ronnie kray
i actually missed the episode because my schedule has me working at that hour. but i will catch on the encore. i am glad to see that Mac is already kicking ass. i can't wait to see this episode! BJJVegan
Ive read a couple recaps where the writer is basically saying he doesnt think Mac will ever be a UFC champ or will even win the show. I guess triangle choking a BJJ black belt isnt that impressive.
tigars
Here're Danzig's thoughts about the first show. Interesting behind the scenes stuff about Roman and Joe. http://www.ocregister.com/sports/danzig-tuf-ufc-1846585-welterweight-season
klutch
Mac has his own blog where he will occasionally talk about his diet. Unfortunately all his old posts are missing. The only thing I remember from when I read the stuff a while back is that the dude loves his clifbars. I hope he will repeat some of the stuff again.http://macdanzig.blogspot.com/ Jake Shields is another awesome fighter, but he is vegetarian not vegan. I suggest people check him out.http://jakeshields.com/
