Alcohol

I'm 21 from England. In England you can drink alcohol in bars from the age of 18. I can honestly say I drank more alcohol before I was 18 than I have drunk in the last three years!

Indeed, 12 months ago I decided to cut out alcohol COMPLETELY!

At first I found the social pressure quite challenging but once I made the unbelievable progress that I've made with my physique I had the confidence to decline alcoholic drinks politely.

I'm happy with my definition and I don't want to lose it:

I've discovered that you certainly DO NOT need alcohol to have a good time, party lots, perform on stage, fool around and have lots of friends!

Since going alcohol free I feel more confident!

I've been in Germany for about three months now as an exchange student.

I've been to practically every student party/bar night/pub night. I know pretty much all of the guys and girls in my hall of residence by name. I have great friends and feel good.

Alcohol sucks!

I think everyone here is alcohol-free anyway but I just wanted to add my success story with regard to the POISON that is alcohol!!

PS So what do you drink at parties/in pubs?? Well, mineral water, when possible. Of course, juice sucks as well, especially the concentrated kind, and ESPECIALLY these menacing "juice drinks", which contain raw cane sugar, another POISON!!! You have to look out! I'm gonna post on the thread about junk food now.

Awesome! Congratulations! I've been alcohol-free for 25 years, and I'm 25 years old, so I've never had it, other than to taste it on my tongue when I was around 12 years old because my dad had a can and I wanted to know the taste.

You know what, even last night there were people concerned about me driving home after the New Years party. I've also been watched by security at places, because I am known for having so much "fun" that I must be drunk, or at least drinking. But then my friends explained to the concerned people last night that I am drug free for 25 years and there is nothing to worry about. I do get a little crazy, have lots of energy and have some pretty sweet dance moves so people think I'm a little typsy at times, when really I'm not.

I'm happy to hear you decided to give up alcohol. It is a very common drink for people your age so great job dealing with the peer pressure and saying "no thanks".

I"m glad it's working for you but you know, plenty of very healthy intelligent people occasionally drink alcohol with no ill effects. People who live to 100, people who are cut, people who can squat over 500 pounds (VeganEssentials on this board for example). It's not for everyone, but it's no big deal for many people. But I'm glad it's working for you.

Good point Jay, and I think most people would agree with that. I stay away from it for personal reasons but most of my friends drink, and some of my family members do to.

But I hear what you're saying.

Nonetheless, great job Gorilla, I'm pleased to hear you gave up alcohol.

I have an average of about 1 drink a year.

Just not interested in it anymore, and don't like the taste.

And I went through my boozy stage between the ages of 17 and 19, and got in enough drinking to hold me over for a long time. I find I can act just as goofy as I want without the alcohol (and it seems to me a lot of people use alcohol to get to that stage, because they're uptight about "acting mature" and all that).

I know what you mean, in my view, too many people in England have a unhealthy relationship with alcohol. I don't think is bad to enjoy some wine with a meal or a drink here and there. The same way, I don't see anything wrong with people that choose not to drink at all.

I think the one potential good of drugs is that you can look at things from a new way. But they're really not worth it for that. You can look at things from a new way without drugs. I notice good musicians always seem to take drugs. I think that's more because they end up desperately suicidal and turn to music then to try to feel better. And they are trying to assimilate also. It seems that a lot of artist types are really concerned with trying to fit in/be cool or whatever. Which seems really strange to me. But I remember I always got dissed because I was getting degrees in engineering and didn't dress right for them. I was stereotyped and dismissed.

I went to art school for a while, and I found the opposite to be true. Most of them would try harder to be shocking and/or unique than to fit in and be 'cool'. For most artists/musicians, the drugs had nothing to do with being depressed or suicidal, more as a quick way to try and tap into their subconscious and expand their creativity.

Good work Gorilla if it is working for you. The abs look great!

For me, i'm enjoying a nice brown ale about now. I was alcohol-free for the first 30 years of my life, so I hear where you are coming from. Don't assume though that alcohol is a problem for everyone. I drink moderately and work out very intensely. One doesn't negate the other.
