My doctor recommended L-Carnitine over Creatine, and seems to think it performs a similar function.

Is this true?

Also keen to hear from people who use L-Carnitine and if it has shown any benefits for you.

Thanks

Taking one specific amino acid while consuming an adequate diet can be largely pointless. Your body is designed to deal with whole proteins (rather than one specific amino acid) and as such is much more efficient at processing whole proteins. There is also some evidence that consuming individual amino acids can overwhelm the body's transport system promoting toxicity (i'll see if I can find the source, was from one of my dietetic lecturers)

There are tons of studies that show creatine's effectiveness at increasing endurance, muscle growth, and recovery.

Carnitine might help support cardiovascular health.... maybe? Sometimes ALCAR is recommended for body recomp, but I can't say I've ever seen a good study on it.

I'm not sure where your doctor got the idea to supplement one instead of the other. Creatine is by far more studied and proven.

Well I don't know too much about it, but Wiki seems to think carnitine is the second coming of Jesus.
