I used to have terrible problems sleeping, literally could not do it and would just lay there for hours. Though it was linked to various problems, and I now have very little problem sleeping, at the time I found something to help which was a relaxation CD. I thought "yeah..." but I tried it anyway. I swear I have never heard the end of that CD, I am always KO half way through. But, since listening to it a number of times, I just remember the initial tools for how they get you to relax, and I just think about it in my mind and have myself go through the steps - don't need a CD anymore. So any night where I have trouble, I just think it through and put my body into a relaxed state. It works 99% of the time

Precisely. :D

Seems like you have a large chunk of your day scheduled very late. If your knee-jerk reaction is to say, "Well, I can't do anything about that," take a moment and think hard on it. Even stress activated by "good" activities wears down the body eventually. Refer to the cartoon you posted if you need inspiration.

What is your stimulant intake like? Coffee, chocolate, tea, sodas, energy drinks? I cut out all caffeine a while back and now I never have trouble falling asleep. I'm completely out cold within 3 minutes of getting in bed at night.

This may sound strange but I highly reccomend eating raw spinach w/orange slices.
The trick is: Vit. C unlocks the iron in the spinach. I started eating handfulls
every morning 3yrs ago & now I sleep like a baby.

If I have a biz trip, I always eat spinach salads w/some sort of citrus or OJ for lunch.
Here's the catch - I know it works because if I don't have it for say 7 to 10 days, I can
no longer stay asleep (wake up @ 3am & stay awake)

I dare you to give it a try for a week.

There are three supplements that are known to help those suffering from abnormal sleeping patterns and insomnia.
Valerian root (which you can find in capsule form) Melatonin & Cal/Mag.
Melatonin seems to be the first thing people choose but Cal/Mag is the better option. Valerian root is very strong and is usually the last thing I recommend but is an alternative if nothing else works.
