High uric acid?!

#1 Postby ChaserHUN » Sat Jun 23, 2012 5:40 am

I had blood and pee test the last week, everything seemed ok, except that my uric acid is higher than it should be and I don't get it why. I thought high uric acid is present if someone eat a lot of meat and animal protein, but it seems not. Usually my diet looks like this:
Breakfast: green smoothie or banana smoothie, or other sweet fruits in summer
Lunch: usually grains with lot of vegetabales, or in the summer sweet fruits
Dinner: beans or lentils, after I eat some salads with sesame or poppy seeds.

I don't get it why my uric acid is high, the upper value max is 400 and mine is 438.
Any advice?

Do you drink tea? Get enough water? Eat too much spinach?

Those are the only questions I can think of.
High carb, low fat, whole foods. Any questions?

Meats and beer have high level of purine. However, soy, spinach, kale, broccoli, asparagus, lentils, kidney beans, and mushrooms also contain moderately high levels of purine. Green smoothies usually have spinach or kale included in them (to make them green). I suspect high uric acid in and of itself is not a huge issue... ie just your body's way of taking care of high purine foods. Problems arise if your body can't look after it . Are you having issues like kidney stones or gout?

A quick google search and I found this on Livestrong:

Normal Lab Values

Uric acid levels range from 250 to 750 mg after a 24-hour collection, according to MedlinePlus. Uric acid levels also vary from day to day and may also vary seasonally. Uric acid normal ranges may vary from laboratory to laboratory.
If it's important to you, you'll find a way. If it isn't, you'll find an excuse.

Agree with stcalico. Stats vary, so do doctors. In the end, the only thing that matters is how you feel and whether you are able to happily and comfortably live the life you desire. If the answer is Yes, then leave the check ups alone. They are designed to make life easier for physicians, not for patients.

Well the night before the test I have eaten a bi amount of white beans, could be of that?
These days usually I only put lettuce in my green smoothies.
I feel good actually.
