Raw Oats Mixed in with Protein Powder....

Recommended Posts

Quick cooking oats are usually not "raw" by definition. They've been pre-toasted and cut up so they'll absorb water faster. But you can get many times the nutrition of those by going straight to the source: whole oat groats. These are oat grains that haven't been sliced, toasted, or otherwise processed at all. All their nutrition is still intact. You can boost it even further by soaking them overnight, draining the water, and adding the oats to your smoothie.

Here's how: pour 1/2 C soaked oat groats into 1/2 C. water in your blender and blend them until it has been turned into a smooth mash. Add a little water as you go if the mixture gets so thick it stops moving. Add things like flax seeds now, too, so they will get ground up. After that, add whatever else you have in mind, alternating dry and wet ingredients to keep the flow moving. Add extra water if needed. Taste, and add your sweetener of choice at the end if you feel like it. This will produce a uniformly smooth smoothie without annoying chunks.

go get a small coffee grinder and throw in a serving of oats...grind it to a powder. Shake it with some protein powder--quick easy way to consume lots of calories... and its basically a meal

but from what ive heard the downside is that you don't get any digestive enzymes from chewing... so it would be best to throw couple scoops of digestive enzyme to try and help. might be the downside to anything u throw in the blender

Thanks everybody...

I appreciate it. I was thinking of grinding an appropriate amount by ration and adding it to my powder all at once...but I don't know how that would work. I could grind up the oatmeal all at once and keep it separate.

I will check out the groats too, but I'm an early am lifter...so I don't have much time between working out and getting ready for work.

Thanks for the heads up regarding the digestive enzymes supplement. I will have to check it out.
