Looking to lose fat & lift to build muscle

My thighs/butt are way too fat/thick for my liking, so I've been doing a lot of cardio and eating at a huge deficit in hopes of losing that fat. I'm also, however, looking to lift to build muscle, but I'm not sure how exactly I should eat in order to achieve both goals at the same time. I've lost 6-7 kg in 2.5weeks from doing a lot of cardio daily, but I don't know how many calories I should eat, in addition to how I should set up my macros.

Age: 22 (ovo-lacto vegetarian for 16 years)

Height: 178 cm / 5 foot 8

Weight: 81 kg / 178 lbs

As you can see from the photo of my upper body, I have very little muscle development, but my thighs/butt are really thick and fat.

I've looked through numerous threads about what people eat daily (ie. viewtopic.php?f=6&t=570), but everybody seems to be eating a lot more calories than I expected. Should I even eat that much calories if my goals are to lose fat (around my thighs/butt) and gain muscle just about everywhere else? My main source of protein comes from boiled egg whites, but I suppose that's not really enough (I no longer eat the yolk, but eat up to 6 whites daily).

Thanks for any advice

If you want to gain muscle and lose fat, I would highly recommend you check out http://www.stronglifts.com

Any beginner should do the stronglifts program. I am in the middle of it myself and have seen some really great results. The fact of the matter is, doing compound barbell movements with progressive loading will do more to change your body composition (muscle/fat ratio) than cardio ever will.

Diet is important, but it is secondary to a proper strength training program if you're trying to build muscle and change your body composition. Hope that helps.

Cheers,

John
