Talk to yourself in a grocery store line up

Recommended Posts

Activist tip for the day:

When you are waiting in a line up anywhere, whether in a bank, school, grocery store or whatever, and you are in earshot of other people, pretend you are talking to somebody on your cell phone and get the animals message out there!!! Mention that you saw disturbing footage of how animals are treated on factory farms and slaugherhouses, mention documentaries like "Meet your meat", "The witness" etc. Talk about how you found out how animals are actually skinned alive for their fur, talk about KFC cruelty in graphic detail, etc. Nobody will know that there is nobody on the end of that phone line, and that you are really talking to dead air!!

Another good place to talk to your "imaginary cell phone friend" about the plight of animals is when you are sitting in a bus or subway. Basically, anywhere where there are people within ear shot. When I was doing that the other day, the lady in the bank line up inquired further about "Meet your meat." Hopefully, my conversation with my "imaginary friend" got her thinking.

This is a great tip on how you can get the animals message out to people without directly talking to them for those of you that are shy or nervous. It is like you are talking on your phone to a friend and minding you own business, not "preaching" directly to anybody. But if you speak clearly and loudly enough (without sounding too loud and thereby making it too obvious), people who are in earshot cannot help but hear you. :wink

Hey Nat, I took a meat eater to see Peaceable Kingdom on tuesday and then took her out for soy ice cream afterwards. I also made sure she picked up all the available information at the screening. Hopefully it got to her a little. And even if she doesnt go veg right now, maybe it planted a seed. Anyways, I thought you'de like to hear that.

Dude, we have them in Oregon.......and I believe in California as well. Just like Dairy Queen but soft serve soy!

That is where my avatar photo is taken. After I won my competition I went out for a soy blizzard with the fans and friends!

Next time you're out this way, we'll hit it up.

Portland may be one of the greatest cities in the country. I love visiting that place a few times a month to see family, friends and to perform comedy at the clubs.

So far I've been to 31 countries and 31 US States and not too many places are higher on my list of favorites than Portland, Oregon. It's not my home town or anything either so no bias.

So anyway, yeah, I roll into Scooters every once in a while and get me some soft serve soy.

yes!! scooters!

I lived in portland for years.....portland is the best. It is laid back, has great public transportation and more shit to do than you would believe.

The only thing I would advise against portland is: DO NOT GO TO MARY'S STRIP CLUB. It may be the oldest strip club in portland (maybe in all of oregon) but the women there are not hot at all, the place is dirty as hell and the bathrooms smell like the little video rooms in porn stores.

Ash, that is great work. and yes, it made my day. Like you said, even if it doesn't happen cold turkey, you have planted a seed that will hopefully continue to grow. Your friend will certainly be more aware of the cruelty in her food than she was before, and visual images are powerful and often hard to shake.

Again, thansk for sharing that with me, you rock, you're awesome. PS> Can you make it to LA in Septembe for the gala?

Hey Nat, glad that made your day My next plan is to put leaflets and loose stickers in library books, and hopefully not get caught. I won't be able to make it to the peta gala, financial and school reasons. A friend of mine is getting married in SoCal the end of august and I was planning on going but my evil volkswagon (with vegan interior haha) has broken down and is costing me $600 i dont have to get it fixed, so I dont know if I'll be making it to my friends wedding either. Someday we will all have to get together for something though. The first one to win the lotto is in charge of organizing it.

Oh my gosh it is ironic that you should mention the lottery adn your car cuz I just bought a lotto ticket for the first time today!!! Don't usually play because i am one of those unlucky people that NEVER win ANYTHING. But I am so hard up on cash that I need $$ so I played. If I won a lot of money I would totally buy a whole bunch of those peta tickets and all of you would be my guests, We would all sit at the best table right next to Kim BAsinger, ALec baldiwn, Charlize Theron, Joaquin Pheonix, and other famous animal lovers!!! We would be royalty for one night!!! Then I would take us all to Cancun Mexico from there cuz I love cancun even though I almost drowned there.

And as far as cars, my mustang (nobody get excited - it is only a four banger) recently started dying. Something about a timing belt slipping and breaking a tooth, pistons, cylinders, and a whole bunch of other stuff that I have no clue about. Anyway, I took it to one mechanic who said that it was pretty much in need of a partial engine rebuild, which would cost upwards of $2000. Not worth it cuz my car is a 1993 with a black book value of probably not even a thousand. So luckily my dad's long lost cousin who is also a mechanic fixed it up for me for $850 just enough so I can get another year out of it - until I am done school for good.

I HATE spending money on car trouble. I want to have my cake and eat it too I guess - driving and not paying for it!!!

But my car has seen me through 13 good years with no major let downs so I cannot complain. She is a good girl. I call her Stella. Stella wants to retire - but I hope she can give me another year.
