Hrmm, Topher you make a lot of sense. I mean a lot of people in the gym, like willpeavy said just yap around. What are you there for, to talk or to work out? It's only an hour in your day, and it should be for your body only. The only time I chat is prior to working out or if I am resting (which is less than a minute), and even then thats rare.

I just like to stare in the mirror, especially with a side view. I guess I like looking at the mirrors more than talking

yea, it's pretty gay to check mirrors but i do it to make sure my arms are moving in unison for dumb bell stuff....

i don't usually bother talking to anyone at the gym, don't even bother when they're aying dumb shit that's completely incorrect.

there is one born again christian type i like to fuck with though, just throwing his towel off the bench between sets and bumping him when he's pressing, that kinda stuff.

i always train at home, or at my friends house (we both have squat cages and the like!) so training is generally a social event.

its cool like that though, as with power lifting you need bigger rests, so i just hang out and chat!

i think its very healthy that most of my socialising revolves around lifting (with about 4 different vegan lifters). most people socialise and get drunk - my plan is much healthier!

I understand what your saying Topher because I've always been intence when working out! even the day before, I'm focused on what I gotta do, I would go to the gym workout and go! I wouldn't talk or even look at anybody! now when I work out i work out with my friend at his home that trains much heavier than I do! we have a fun time pushing each other to new hieghts and talking friendly competitive banter! and our time is never wasted, but recently I'm wanting to go underground and get some ultra serious work done! so I can see us getting more intence and talking more trash!

I work out alone, it's a meditation for me. It's a time to focus and train. When I'm working out, nothing else is on my mind but pushing up that iron.

That said, I really enjoyed working out at Jonathan's flat. I wish there were some cool vegan brothers around here to work out with occassionally.

What are you, 15 years old? Why would you pick on someone, that is fucking stupid.

My gym is like all others, in that it is full of people who stand around bullshitting more than lifting. There are a couple people I say hi to, and one guy I train with occassionally with much more experience than me. I do talk to him between sets, because we talk lifting and he usually has good pointers to help my form or routine.

Yes Topher, I have seen you in your own world at the gym.

At different times of my life I have been very much in my own world, focused and did not talk to anyone. I just trained hardcore and that was that. Now….as Topher has seen, I socialize quite a bit. I know everyone at the gym, they are the only friends I get to see because the rest of my life is so busy and doesn't allow room for social events.

I still train hard, I'm still focused, and I still achieve great results (maybe recently the best shape of my life). I still go back and forth and sometimes so I'll stick to myself and quietly do my own thing. Other times I'm quite social, loud and have fun. That "fun" aspect actually helps my pump, it gets me excited and makes the workout even more enjoyable. The quiet ones in my own world are great too.

I try not to bother others. I would never pick on someone or tease them. That is not nice. Sometimes I chat with Big Ben for long periods but I try not to interrupt his workout.

We should also watch the usage of the f-word in this thread. I'm noticing it quite a bit on the site lately and I like to try to keep it at a minimum so we don't offend people. Maybe use these instead: #$^&%@Q*^

Thanks,

Robert

I am guilty of this, sorry, I will try not to drop any more f-bombs

Hey Tyler,

No worries man....I just noticed site-wide there had been quite a few f-bombs lately. I'm just a little more sensitive because I gotta lookout for everyone here to make sure nobody gets offended by some of the language that we can avoid using.

You can also ask Megan, Topher and Kourtney, I'm also just a little more sensitive in general....I think it comes from working with children for 10 years. Even the violence in Disney movies bothers me

Imagine how I feel about violence toward animals

But yeah, cool man, we'll just focus a little more on keepin it clean around here.

Parents, kids, etc. all check out the forum for advice.

@#$ you man! You can't tell me what to !@#$ing say!

Okay, just kidding.

There is a funny spot that runs on my gym's monitors asking people not to use profanity. The cartoon guy is telling people what words not to say, but each word gets bleeped by things like a passing elephant, train etc. Then he says "there's one more, I can't remember it right now", then he looks up and there is a safe falling on his head and he says "ah..." and the safe falls on his head.

Topher, you are in your own little world. But yes, I do know what you mean. Just not with lifting. Different things.

ahahaha yes this is true.

I just noticed I prefer to just do my own lil thing. robert sees it....when I decide to be left alone and lift, I let him know Im gonna go workout a few sets by myself, and its no biggie. In fact the gym used to be a social gathering place for me. I would lift and talk to all my old friends and hang out and stuff. but now I find the gym is more of a release for me, and that when I talk to others, I completely lose focus of what I am feeling, and therefore it stays bottled up.

no disrespect to those who do socialize and lift. i just wanted to see if I was the only one who likes his solitude.

and yeh hobson, lifting with everyone in jonathans flat was awesome!

and to robert: sorry i drop the F word a lot. I am notorious for cursing for no reason
