Flat/small stomachs?

How do you guys get such small stomachs? is it all down to dieting? I hate doing ab work and I've hardly ever done it in my whole life! but I think it's time to do something about my stomach once and for all! The only time I ever had a flat stomach was when I was fruitarian and I loved it! So guys!!! is there a way of keeping a relatively small/flat stomach while maintaining mass?

I am the worst person to comment on this.

 

I know all of the bodybuilder types at my gym wear belts when lifting. Most don't do deadlifts or squats, but those who do always wear a belt. Otherwise, they may actually develop some strength/muscles in their midsection and lose that tiny waist.

 

After that it's all diet and cardio.

I really dont have any advice.

 

I just listen to my body (feed it, rest it, etc. whenever it calls for it) and work towards a goal. I never work abs.

I did write my only article on the main part of the website about abs. maybe that could help?? if not, sorry. I dont know what else to say

Hmmmm... I cannot wait to hear what the "Ab Gods" Hero and Tarz have to say.

I'll be waiting for their answers, too... my abs don't seem to be good enough to be mentioned together with the ab gods...

Theres a technique called the "Stomach Vaccum". If you have ever seen the 60's and 70's Pro Bodybuilders, their stomachs looked like this:

The way to achieve that is by doing stomach vaccums. It works out the Transverse Abdominis, which is located laterally on the front side of the hips:

Stomach Vaccuum

 

CAUTION: If you have high blood pressure do not even try to do this. Anyone who tries this is taking their own risk and I aint gonna be responsible if you get injured or pass out

 

Basically what you do is exhale all your air. Then, without breathing, bring in your naval as if you were trying to make it touch your spine. Hold it there as well as tighten it. Try doing it at 10 seconds first. Then as each week goes on, progress to probably 15 to 20 seconds. Do it about 3 times a week. That's the Stomach Vacuum

actually - my abs arent quite that ripped these days (still got all six though) but at least im lifting heavy weights. plus its much less effort not doing any ab work

The burning question apparently on some of your minds is : Why did Natalie refer only to Tarz and Hero as "Ab Gods" and not include in that description Jonathan and Alex, whom she KNOWS also have abs fit for the gods (after all , she aint blind).

 

alright damn it i will come clean here.

 

Hmmm..... well, could it be that she is flirting and Alex and Jonathan (unlike Hero anad Tarz) arent available?

i feel that justice has been done

 

well, i dont envy your position nat - both tarz and topher are lovely guys - there isnt much to choose between them.

 

basically i will say this - if you like rooibosh tea, go after tarz.

 

if you like sleeping, sleeping and then some more sleeping, go for topher.

Back to topic... Aaron is ~70% right Abs are about BF% mainly. But when you want great abs, abs that show not only when you're BF is <10%, then you need to work them. I used to work my abs everyday for1-1,5 hours alone, for years! Now i do almost nothing, because i think they're ok and i have other primary targets now.

For a "flat" middle section, you don't need a lot of ab exercises, just reduce BF. Still work obliques and abs with one exercise each every workout.

Don't overeat - if you stuff yourself every meal your digestive organs will expand and will be full all the time, causing a bigger belly. Bloating things also do this.

I wouldn't recommend the vacuum exercise. Rather, when eating or walking, slightly retract your belly and contract your abs slightly. It helps with muscle tonus and with keeping a straight posture, both important for a flat middle.
