Re: New life...time for a new log!
30/10/10:
Knee Push-ups: 3 sets of 10...last set kind of sucked
DB RDLs:
30x8
35x8
35x8
One Arm DB Row:
25x8
30x8
30x8
DB Split Squats:
30x8
35x8
35x8
stretching
31/10/10:
didn't have a formal cardio session, but I was out walking around for a few hours and it was definitely a workout.
Diet on the weekend kind of sucked. Need to get that back in line. No more mindless snacking. My Ph.D. defense is in less than two weeks and I'm stressed out about that, and for me stress = mindless eating.

Re: New life...time for a new log!
Yay! I was FINALLY given security clearance for the gym at work. It is pretty fancy and there are a ton of cardio/weight machines, but the free weight selection sucks. Someone told me there was a 'hidden' part with some barbells. I went and found it. Basically it is a bench press set up (bench, barbell) and a 3d smith machine (aka a jones machine). So I am still in a dilemma about what to do about squats. Posted in the Bodybuilding section of the forum for advice.
3/11/10:
A messed up version of workout #1 of Stronglifts (supposed to start with just the bar):
Goblet squat:
5 sets of 5 @ 45 lbs
Bench press:
5 sets of 5 @ 45 lbs
Inverse Rows:
3 sets of 12 --> I really suck at these
Knee Push-ups:
3 x 10
3 x 8 (fail)
3 x 5 (fail)
(was trying to make sure my chest went all the way to the ground, no partial ROM allowed)
Reverse crunches:
3 x 12
3 x 10 (fail)
3 x 8 (fail)
5 min. stretching
Wow I feel like I've lost a lot of strength. Not that I had that much to lose. Eager to see what my progression will be like.
bcaa's
<<workout>>
baked tofu, roasted kabocha, celery sticks, banana, apple
red lentil-veggie curry, more kabocha, apple
I know written out that doesn't look like much food, but my portions were huuuuuge. Trying out this IF thing...seeing if eating 2-3 times a day works out better for me than the traditional 5-6.

power cleans/front squats until you have a legit squat rack. get on 'em. imo better than back squats anyhow...not that I do a ton of either currently.

Re: New life...time for a new log!
Do you think I should do front squats in workout a and b? Would they work my glutes at all or just quads?
Re: New life...time for a new log!
'Should' is all relative. I mean, why couldn't you? If I was concerned about that being too much frequency (it's not), i'd probably make one of them an overhead squat. How's your balance?

Re: New life...time for a new log!
Okay, okay, I didn't mean "should", I meant, would it be optimum. But perhaps I'm overthinking it and I should just go in and squat.
Ha, balance is horrible, which means I should be working on it all the more.

Re: New life...time for a new log!
It all depends who you ask. If you're cramping a ton, you might be overdoing it. Otherwise, go nuts. says me...

4/11/10:
AM: 45 min. yoga
Our cable package came with an on demand channel that has a lot of free stuff. It's mostly crappy movies that nobody wants to watch, but there are also quite a few workout programs. Decided to try out some yoga since I've been so stiff now that I am sitting in a chair for 8-9 hours a day.
<<yoga>>
...
lentil-veggie stew, banana, apple
spaghetti squash with black beans, salsa, and nutritional yeast sauce
collard wraps with sprouted lentil hummus
wanted to get in a trainer ride in the evening but I didn't get home until late and by the time I ate dinner it was almost bed time.
Will get to bed at a decent hour and make myself get out of bed tomorrow AM to hop on the trainer. I have to get back in the habbit of morning workouts.

05/11/10:
6:15 AM: 30 min. trainer ride (5 min. spin, 20 min. of 1 min on/1 min off intervals, 5 min. spin)
11:00 AM:
Squats (Jones):
5 sets of 5 @ 55 lbs. (I know on Stronglifts you are only supposed to advance by 5 lbs each workout, but my gym doesn't have 2.5 lb plates)
OHP:
5 sets of 5 @ 45 lbs.
DL:
1 set of 5 @ 85 lbs.
Assisted Chins:
3 sets of 5 @ 60 lbs.
Prone Bridges:
2 x 30 sec. (don't have a stopwatch at the gym, but was counting Mississipi's)
On the weekend I was basically doing dissertation stuff the entire time. Went for a few walks. I'm going pretty crazy at this point. Diet hasn't been the greatest. Either I am eating everything in sight or I am not eating at all. Oh well, one way or another, it will be over come Friday.

Re: New life...time for a new log!
Thanks! I'm looking for something I can add weight too, though.
Haven't been doing much...every waking moment when I'm not at work I am obsessing over my dissertation. Fly out tomorrow. Defend Friday. Fly back Saturday. Oi.

Re: New life...time for a new log!
We don't have one of those fancy glute ham raise contraptions.
I miss my university gym, it was pretty decked out because that's where all of the varsity athletes trained.
