I don't find it difficult at all and I always use a candy thermometer.

I mostly hate it because it really reminds me just how unhealthy deep fried stuff is when you have to look at all of that oil and what not (so gross!). When I just eat one thing at a restaurant or whatever, I can ignore that.

Probably regional. Our Whole Foods has a pitiful buffet. Pretty much no Vegan food, ever.

 

Back in Connecticut pastries are scarce but the buffet is GINORMOUS.

Ah yeah, around here there's a decent buffet selection of vegan items plus a good amount of Indian dishes that are often vegan as well. It's frustrating as hell when they have nearly-vegan items that have some ingredient (such as honey) than could easily not be in there. I strongly doubt there are non-vegs out there who'd look at it and say pass it up because it didn't contain honey.

 

Though the alternative to honey is "sugar" the fattening boogeyman.
