Ab workouts, how many a week ?

#1 Postby SeventhDay » Tue Jul 03, 2012 8:48 pm

How many times should we be working out abs out in week ?
Do they need just as much time as the rest of the body to recover ?

Every time I hit the gym I'll be squatting and/or doing gymnastic ring work like levers & L-sits, so my abs get worked 3 times a week. Personally I don't bother with separate ab/core work any more.

I just do ab sets between other sets at the gym, whilst waiting for equipment etc. Or whilst I am warming up or down. Easy way of training them.
Davey's favourite tipple was "Blow My Skull", a cocktail he served in half-pint glasses consisting of rum, brandy, gin, port, Madeira, sherry and claret.

I do plank holds, leg lifts and sit ups maybe 2 times per week. I don't do a complete ab workout, just throw those into my routine now and then. I figure if your abs are sore, leave the situps etc for another day, and if they are not, then go for it.. that's just my opinion tho. Your major lifts will be (should be) working your core - so focus on making sure your abs are tight throughout your lifts.
If it's important to you, you'll find a way. If it isn't, you'll find an excuse.

The three things I'm currently working on are my thighs, ab workouts, and cardio. It's going pretty well, and I'd say I really do simple sit-ups literally every time I get the chance. Meaning when I go to my car, sometimes I'll stick my feet under my tires and do sit-ups. Then when I'm at work on lunch I run a little bit and use maybe a bench or something to do some sit-ups. I try to designate a workout time every two or three days and I do about 60 sit-ups the military way where you make an X with your arms over your chest; rather than putting your hands behind your head and straining your neck.

The third workout I mentioned is cardio, simply jogging a little more after maybe three or four times out running. I'm trying to keep exercise gradual rather than destroying myself and hurting the next day. Sure it's good when you're worked out, but we should be able to move the day after working out.
Playing the brain game.
