Everything is in kg over here in NZ as well, I've always converted it because I got fed up of people asking how much I'm lifting, or if I'm writing in kg or lb haha.

Spending time training your tri's and shoulders will definately help your bench mate ~ good pressing!

well I use this weight. x reps x .0333 + weight.= 1RM. it was concocted by the legend that is Jim Wendler, it's pretty accurate from what I've experienced, I do them standing but don't the weight at all with legs I do it very strict, I feel sitting is awkward with a bar even when I have access to the power rack, doing a clean before the first rep doesn't hinder me in anyway so standing always wins ;)
ah fair enough mate, I get a bit like that carting around massive bloody rollers of wine and champagne all day, I'm sure I'll regret todays training tomorrow when I'm at work :(

and very good point MF it just makes it easier for everyone and is no problem for me to do, thanks :D it's getting better! one more light/medium bench press session and then I'll be going for another max, I'm scared haha

standing is better, i do it sitting now and again but i find less pressure on my lower back standing! i do negatives sometimes, do say 8 reps failure then jerk the bar up with your legs for a few reps and lower slowly nice intensity booster :)

You have to leave your fear at the door when you're going for a max mate, any doubt in your mind has to be pushed aside. When you lift for a PB (or even if it's just really heavy) you have to have a clear mind and be able to visualise that lift happening.

Easier said than done eh? :p I'm sure I'll be fine, I'm looking at 80Kg plus for bench day only a 2.5Kg improvement on my current max, slow and steady! love your new avatar and signature by the way :D

Yeah, it is easier said than done mate. It's just doing this kind of stuff over and over again, a lot of it ends up coming down to confidence.

Take a look at my final deadlift in the video of the meet, I might look calm but honestly my heart was beating out of my chest. I knew I had lifted 190kg before, but not weighing 2kg less than I normally do. Plus I had only gone up to 185kg in my training, so I really didn't know if I could do it as I walked up to the bar. That's why you can hear me yell something at the start and pull the bar to try and fire myself up. Think I even shouted out "GOT IT" when I realised I had the lift, lol. You've just gotta be willing to push the envelope every now and then, that's the difference between someone like myself and most of the regulars that I see at the gym every day.

Conceptualise, visualise and achieve.

Do you cycle your workouts, if you do how many cycles do you go through in a year.

I train more instinctively, where I use my colleges gym which is only open 12pm-2pm and then 4-7pm I don't have much freedom, its also ridiculously busy so I do what I can when I can, its usually alright but I just stick to the main lifts and improving them. Once I've had a heavy session ill have a couple of medium/light ones before going for anymore personal bests (:

Hey MF it was bloody fun, there were so many people there loads of which were in costumes :D must have been loads of places work dos! Coincidently it was my work do aswell in the late evening, we went to a pub called the castle which has an old tale that there's a secret tunnel leading from the castle pub to the actual castle on the island :o anywho it was a blast! Danced to some old 80s music 8) and had some isle of wight ale called wight christmas haha.
How's your weekend been? Suppose its nearly monday in NZ now ahha

Yeah, weekend was cool. Picked up a massive playhouse for the girls yesterday, took about 10 of us to move it onto a trailer and get it back to my place. Then had a pretty solid training session in the afternoon, my strength is always good about a week after a meet :)
